Importance of Sleep
Excellent book and much needed by all to get their life in order and to understand the importance of sleep. This especially important for adult population to make sure their brain/mind does not depreciate at an accelerated pace and keep a balance in life between being awake & sleeping.

Not inspiring, little new information
I do not break off reading many books, but this book is just unnecessary. It compiles a lot of information on obvious things like how productivity and concentration decreases with less sleep. I found very little new information, I think the book could be shortened to a two or three page article, at least for people who do not have serious sleeping problems.

OMG life changing
This book is fantastic. I was already working on improving my sleep but this gave me the 100% reassurance I needed to never return to my old ways. I have recommended it to others who now understand why I am always banging on about the importance of sleep.

INTERESTING BUT IT IS NOT FOR LONG TIME INSOMNIACS
This is a well written pleasant read with guidance for newcomers to insomnia.

Good reminder
Good reminder that sleep is important. More a skim read of quotes from, or summaries of, other people's work in sleep than any original content.

Worthwhile read
A good reminder and well written. A bit repetitive ("and another study.....") but a good read nevertheless and it's helped me refocus.

I really enjoyed learning about the trend of goggling pictures of politicians ...
I have seen Arianna Huffington in various news outlets and see her interviewed but I had never read any of her books. I had heard that she had a sleeping book coming out but I was not that interested in it. I did see her interviewed by Bill Maher on his show Real Time and she brought up a lot of interesting points about sleep in our society. One sentence I will paraphrase that Huffington said is " We always make sure our phones are plugged in and charging when we go to bed at night but we are not as likely to recharge ourselves by getting enough sleep". How true is this and how scary is it at the same time. When she said this, it really made me think and convinced me I should read her book.Although I was a bit skeptical, as she has no academic or medical credentials, I purchased it to see if I could learn anything about sleep. I work in rotating shift work, many of my shifts are night shifts so sleep is a constant battle in my life. Arianna Huffington started by sharing her personal struggles with her busy life and how sleep was put on the back burner. She addressed how society in general does not value sleep and in fact tends to celebrate individuals that give up sleep in spite of all the evidence show how important it is. She also discusses the impact of sleep on our economy, health and general wellbeing. I really enjoyed learning about the trend of goggling pictures of politicians sleeping on the job!Huffington discusses the concept of "burnout" and how it is a disease of civilization. I think many people understand the concept of burnout in relation to certain careers and to people working too much. Huffington argues that "burnout" is part of not getting enough sleep and also contributing factor of it. In my area of work, nursing/health care , the new term for "burnout" is "compassion fatigue" meaning you are so tired that you just can't care or have any compassion for people anymore. It is very interesting to me to look at burnout as part of a greater issue: sleeping troubles. I think it was brave of Huffington to link it to this and to discuss this challenging topic. Academics have addressed the modern issue of burnout in healthcare providers and not many have linked it to general sleep hours/patterns alone I appreciate that she provides lots of information and statistics to back up what she is saying. She focuses on everyone: Workers, children, college students, seniors . Sleep is applicable to everyone. She also brought up the issue of sleep aids (medications)and how detrimental they are to an individual's health and the impact for society. I was shocked to learn about all the crimes committed on Ambien. Although, I am not shocked to learn that sleeping pills are not as effective as advocates claim.Huffington provides some better alternatives to using sleeping pills to improve a person's sleep hygiene and once again , she backs it up with evidence and personal experience.

This is not a magic pill for better sleep. It's a story about why sleep should have a bigger place in our lives.
Not the greatest book of all time, but a nice book to re-enforce the importance of sleep.Sometimes it feels like name dropping using (too) many people from different fields and what they say about (their) sleep. But having the personal story of someone like Arianna Huffington is always interesting. If you feel like you're not where you should be with your sleep, the book could help you get serious about sleep, but it will not give you the magic pill to sleep better.

The Sleep Bible
This is truly comprehensive!A. Huffington goes through literature, science and anecdotal evidence, all of which she collected as a result of being a sleepless person herself. That makes this book so credible.Thank you Arianna and good night!Richard
