The Godspell Vocal Selections Songbook is suitable for anyone who is a pianist or a guitarist. The lyrics are printed along with the music, and the selections are very easy to play on a keyboard, piano, or xylophone. The guitar chords appear above the piano accompaniment, and are basic to anyone who is a medium-to-good guitar player. I would say that the guitar accompaniment is "easy" to learn. This is music that any church choir, youth or adult, can sing easily; in fact, I would go so far as to say that it is suitable for a church-wide production or a youth group production. Although the songs were written and published in the 1970's, the words and the music are very appropriate for today.

Wonderful keepsake, with pictures from the original show. Unfortunately, "Beautiful City" is not included, I think, because it was not in the original show. I wish there was a spiral-bound version so the book would stay open better.

Liked that it was so close to the songs as I remember. Has some songs from the Broadway version and most from the T.V. version. Awesome...

This is not the book I was looking for. It's simplified versions of the songs, geared primarily towards vocalists. I wanted the actual piano score. I'm disappointed.

I love the 2011 arrangements. Save for Beautiful City, the book contains the originals. A bit of a bait & switch. So, yeah, I am disappointed, and it may mean I need to find a copy of the score to transcribe some of the new parts.

Has all the songs, including some missing from most collections, like Tower of Babble and On The Willows.

I played bass in this show when I was a teen and fell in love with the music. I felt this collection had appropriately difficult (but not hard) interpretations for piano, vocals, and chords for guitar. It included all of my favorite songs from the show as well.

This is truly great music, even if the musical itself is a difficult prospect. The story of Jesus Christ told not in Jesus Christ Superstar's 'rock-opera' format, but as a string of parables told in pantomime form followed by a stylistic crucifixion, the show can be difficult to grasp, but is well worth it if you can let yourself be swept away by it's energy. The vocal score itself contains almost all of the songs. The notable exception is Beautiful City, which appears in the film (and in new versions of the show such as the 2000 and 2001 recordings). For this, you have to go to other sources. The Prologue also uses the older (original) lyrics rather than Stephen Schwartz's preferred updated lyrics. Having said that, this is an essential if you love the show, or if you're performing in it.

Five stars for a super way of re-visiting my youth! Godspell is an exciting way of learning about Christ's teaching through the theatre of the Parables and some fantastically memorable songs. With the odd exception 'Vocal Selections' provides all the music for a happy trip down memory lane.

My church is presenting the piece on 10th March. I needed to know the opera and the songs at short notice

This was a very well put together portfolio of a very good classic musical by a very talented composer the book came very swiftly .
