Easy install and exactly what I needed
We bought a generator to hook up to our breaker box if the power goes out. I also bought the motor snorkel to convert my gas generator to be able to use propane or natural gas. We have a natural gas line outside our backyard to run our grill off of so I was able to T off of that and run the NG to my generator. Which by the way worked AMAZINGLY well if you’re looking for other options for your generator. Now we can run ours indefinitely!Back to this product. Because I was running our generator on NG, it took a little fine tuning to get running efficiently. Without knowing the engine RPM’s, I could only adjust it to what seemed like the correct engine speed using the carburetor adjustment on the motor snorkel. This allowed me to further tune the NG/air ratio to get the engine running in the proper RPM range which is exactly what I needed. The run time on it is also great so I can keep up with the maintenance. As we done use if often, it’s nearly impossible to remember or know how long it has ran.Install was straight forward and easy and now I have th le leave of mind that our generator is running efficiently and is being maintained properly so it’s always ready if needed.

Works for now.
No complaints here. It works fine on my lawn mower and my chainsaw with just the red wire wrapped around the spark plug wire. Those who have problems may not have read the instructions... too few wraps and it won’t pick up a good signal. Too many wraps and it may pick up extra noise. The electronics geek in me thinks that one should wrap the wire as close to where the coax splits into two wires as possible - assuming that it is shielded coax back to the unit - in order to keep from picking up spurious noise. Using the ground wire connected to some bare metal on the engine ought to help with noise also if you are having trouble getting a good reading. I wish the battery were easily replaceable. I’m sure I’ll be cutting this open eventually to try to replace the battery of the rest of it holds up so long that the battery burns out.

Nice little unit
I used this on a Mercury 9.9 hp 4-stroke outboard motor so that I could determine which propeller would work best for me. It was extremely easy to install and set up. It appears to be accurate but I have no other means to cross check it right now. The only downside is that is always on. When the motor is running, it reads rpms. When the motor is off it stays on and displays the run hours which is good to track maintenance intervals. However there is no way to charge it or change the battery in it. So basically once the internal battery dies, you throw it away. We'll see how long this battery lasts. For the price, it's still not a bad purchase.

Works Great!
I have been needing a tachometer to set RPM's on the small engine equipment I repair.Worked great, easy to use. I replaced the split ring ground lug and added an alligator clip for the ground connection which is easier to hook up rather than loosening a bolt on the engine. Just attach the alligator clip to one of the cooling fins on the head. Wish they made one with a clamp on inductive pick (like used on automotive timing lights) up so you would not have wrap the pick up wire 5 times around the spark plug wire.

Works well to tune my motorcycle carburetor
I have a single cylinder, four stroke vintage dual sport motorcycle. It's mechanically as simple as it gets. Unfortunately, it is not equipped with a tachometer. That's where this thing comes in: simply wrap the red wire around you spark plug wire with five tight coils and ground the white wire to the engine casing, and you have a way to measure your RPMs. Until I ordered this I was simply guessing, but now I have the peace of mind of knowing that I'm at least within tolerance of specifications.I will say that this is not the sort of thing you can easily attach to your vehicle and monitor while you're riding, mainly because the wires would be too short for most bikes.

Works with 6 cyl 2 stroke
I'm using this on a Yamaha 150 2 stroke 6 cyl outboard since the LCD on the tach portion of the multifunction gauge is not visible. Easy setup and install. This was $20 and the oem gauge is $300. I had to add wire for the run from motor to console and did not affect the function at all. The gauge has proved waterproof so far. It hasn't taken a direct spray and boat is usually covered but it's held up during washing. Current draw is minimal.Battery life was just over 2 years which is what I was expecting since warranty is 2 years. But I didn't expect it to last from a quality standpoint. Properly sealed.

Works well
Unit works as advertised and seems accurate enough. The wire can be cut and the unit will still work. The ground wire is not needed to function. If you cut the lead back and strip it you will find a white wire inside. Wrap that white wire around your spark plug lead 5 times and you will get a reading. White wire will not stay coiled though, so it takes a drop of hot glue or a wrap of tape to keep it in place.

Great little unit for price
The unit is easy to install and quite accurate for the price. My only issue is there is no way to turn the unit off, or replace the battery. I realize they designed this to be an hour meter too, thus the limited access, but when you look at the fact it lasts for a couple of years, thinking, yeah could achieve with static memory and battery access. Served its purpose for a cheap tach, and yes, I will modify the unit, with on/off function.
