Ways of Curating

By the reviews that accused him of name-dropping, I was expecting a self-important, art world snob. I was pleasantly surprised. His gentle and curious openness is exposed as he wanders through his life experiences that have inspired and changed him. He asks thoughtful questions and completely avoids “art-speak”. It was fascinating to see his approach to curating: to give an artist the opportunity “to make the impossible, possible”, rather than the usual thematic or chronological curating constructs. The book is about his Ways of Curating. They are adventures always inspired with/by a creative person that brings something new. This is not a boring how-to book ;) It’s an inspiring way to look at curating in a different way. Fun read too!

I enjoyed this beginning of this book which gave me enough knowledge to curate a show on my own. Since losing the book on the bus I will buy it again. Very imformative!

An insightful essay on seeing art… on understanding the curator's task of illumination and guidance in the process of seeing and "reading"art.

I quite like this book, as it did open my eyes to the fact that the curating world is a fairly multi-layered world, and it goes way beyond just hanging pictures on a wall. What I like is the rather simple manner in which he writes, and this kept me somewhat engaged throughout. There is a lot of name-dropping, and this does spoil the book somewhat. Also, when he uses terms like 'the greatest artist' etc, I cannot help but think that he, like many Western writers, cannot see beyond the Western / Northern Quarter of the world. Latin America, Asia, Australia are beyond their vision. I would have liked some photographs. This would have helped to illustrate the points he was wanting to make. Apart from these, for me, a good book.

So meaningfull

A very interesting insight to a very successful curator's journey through curatorial practices. Very inspiring for those who are still wondering if there's any particular means to showcase. This book is a good overview.

Having worked as a curator myself, I wish I had come across this book many years ago.
