Great Little Ice Maker!
Updated November 2015 Another 6 month cycle of emptying morning and night; continues to work flawlessly. Defrost every two months and it simply churns out ice. Very pleased with the machine. Updated October 2014 This is the second spring/summer where the unit has run for ~6 months / 24x7 as we keep the ice bucket emptied. To date, the unit simply churns out ice and we are very satisfied with the purchase. July 2013 This small profile, quiet machine has been in my utility room running 24x7 now for almost 30 days. It easily fills it's ice bucket full twice in 24 hours with nice size crescent sized cubes. The unit is meeting all my expectations. In my utility room, I have a washer, dryer, large side/side fridge, large wine cellar and this ice maker. The icemaker and wine cellar are front venting and do exhaust warm air. Don't be surprised by the temp in a small room going up a degree or so when this unit is installed. The only unknown today is how reliable the little guy will be over the next few months / years. I did purchase the Amazon/Assurant 3 Year / 360 Plan as I never buy appliance maintenance so this type of policy is a first for me. I'll update as time goes on. I installed this unit myself and used professional grade water hose, brass connectors and attached an inline water filter. The water we have here in the DFW area has high mineral content so I'm trying to take as much of that sediment out as possible. The installation is simple and easy; just go to your local hardware (Lowes/Home Depot/TruValue) and buy the appropriate hose/connectors for an ice maker installation. Use Teflon tape or plumbers putty and snug up the connectors. No leaks, now or in the future! As always, Amazon service was excellent and the unit was shipped by CompactAppliance. The unit arrived ontime and in good condition. Compact Appliance had double boxed the unit to assure safe delivery, a very nice touch.

NO Customer Service/Unit Failed
I will keep this short and sweet. We got this ice maker 11months ago. It ran great for the first 4 months. Produced a good amount of ice for us and did what we needed. Then the problems started. Ice sheets started to form in the bottom of the ice bin. Right after that the ice bin was filled completely with liquid water....Not Ice. Come to find out the machine is stuck in Ice Harvest mode which means it is filling the ice tray with water about every 2-3 minutes. This does not give the water time to freeze. I would imagine it has a switching control that has gone bad. I have submitted two different service requests as the website says to do for warranty issues. NO RESPONSE! Not a word from them. I have called multiple times and after sitting on hold for over an hour I gave up. The product did not hold up nor do they have any Customer service. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT DUE TO LACK OF SUPPORT AND EARLY FAILURE OF THE UNIT.

Nice little icemaker
Received icemaker and had time to check over thoroughly and let sit level for a couple of days to stabilize. Also had ordered a water filter and installed a dedicated water line. Also ordered a stainless steel table heavy enough to support the weight of the icemaker to sit the unit on. Unit is sitting in a separate tiled room just off the kitchen/dining area, so no issue with noise, although I did not notice any excessive noise as others had mentioned in reviews. One thing I did notice is there is quite a bit of heat that comes front the front vent, but not an issue in our case based on location. Ran quite a bit of water through the carbon filter (into a bucket) to clear prior to hooking up to the unit, then discarded the first 3 or so drops of ice to clean the ice trays themselves of any manufacturing debris. We did notice frost accumulating on the top front area within a couple of days. The seal fits fine so not sure why this is happening. To help remedy this, when I remove the ice bucket to get a large quantity out to make tea, we use a paper towel and manually scrap whatever excess frost off we can. We will totally defrost monthly (maybe sooner) to help eliminate any issues. Overall, seems to be a good, simple icemaker for the money. We purchased to supplement our icemaker in the refrigerator which frequently hangs up because of ice frozen together and other times just no ice with no explanation, plus icemaker is very difficult to remove to check on problems (Maytag brand-love the refrigerator though!)

Good ice maker
This review includes my initial review and updates--scroll to the end to see my most recent comments. After too many trips over the last couple of years to the grocery story to buy ice for our family, I purchased the ES IB120SS ice maker after extensive research. I also bought the 3-year extended warranty policy. The unit was delivered several days ago, and I set it up yesterday in our basement, connecting the water line to our existing reverse osmosis water filter system. Within 40 minutes, the first batch of ice was produced. It continued producing ice steadily. (After 3 hours, I threw out all the ice, and thoroughly washed out the ice bin, as instructed in the installation steps.) However, this morning, I discovered that the ice maker itself had stopped producing ice sometime during the night. (The condenser seemed to be working fine, and the interior of the freezer unit was cold.) The metal arm that detects a full bin was partially up, and the white "arms" that rotate and push out the ice cubes had stopped in an odd position. After some inspection, I discovered that a bit of ice had formed at one spot on the white plastic top rim of the ice mold, effectively jamming the white arm at that location. I carefully broke the ice away, and the white arms immediately started rotating, and a moment later the ice mold filled with water. I'm not sure how water could have dripped or splashed onto that location. My guess, however, is that as the white arms rotate, they carry with them a drop or two of water. In that particular location, the drop accumulates on the rim, and quickly freezes. More drops of water accumulate and freeze, until the bit of ice there is large enough to finally stop the white arms from rotating. I"ll continue to report on what happens. Update 2017-09-02: The ice maker module continued to accumulate ice on its top plastic rim at one end, jamming the white arms that release the ice. This occurred about every 4-5 hours. I called EdgeStar customer support, and they were very helpful. The support rep first said that they would send out a new ice module and find a locale technician to install it (all covered under warranty). A few minutes later she called back and said that the module was not in stock and that they would send me a complete replacement unit (yes, the whole appliance). It arrived a few days ago, which I immediately installed. So far there have been no problems with ice build-up on the ice maker module. I also noticed that the compressor seems to run a bit quieter than the original appliance. (Or maybe I'm just used to the sound now. We have it in our basement, and it cannot be heard in the next room or upstairs.) Only downside is that I need to pack up the original unit and ship it back. But fortunately I kept the original box and packaging, and EdgeStar is paying for the return shipping. I'm upgrading my rating from 3 to 4 stars, because of the good customer service and prompt shipping of the new unit, and because this new unit seems to be working well. Update 2018-02-03: Since I received the replacement unit from EdgeStar, this unit has continued to operate flawlessly, cranking out a bin of ice (about 6 lbs) every 12 hours That being said, defrosting the unit every 4-6 weeks is critical. (It is not a self-defrosting unit; but I knew that when I bought it.) Otherwise, ice will build up on the interior from frost and water splashes, and jam the mechanism. Defrosting the unit, however, is easy. I simply turn the unit off, open the door, remove the ice bin, and place a large cloth towel in the interior, making sure that the towel is pushed against all sides and corners. (This prevents the ice water from running out of the interior compartment and onto the floor.) Leave the door open for about six hours, and it's defrosted. Toss the wet towel in the laundry basket, put the ice bin back in, and turn the unit back on. Twelve hours later, the bin is again full of ice.

I loved it AT FIRST
This is an edit to my original review: I have now had the icemaker for one year and it has stopped making ice. I don’t believe any water is getting into the icemaker. I’m so disappointed because I absolutely loved this icemaker in the beginning but it didn’t even last a year. The freezer still works so I have been storing items in it but I’m going to have to replace it. I’m very disappointed because I loved it so much in the beginning. Original Review: I deliberately waited a few months before writing of review because I wasn’t sure how this would hold up over time but I love this machine, especially for the money compared to the others I saw. The only complaint at all that I have is that the little metal bar that stops ice production is very hard to get in the “off” position. So sometimes ice continues to build a little too fast. I can live with that. This is a great machine for the money and I am very picky about the way my ice tastes. This is perfect. And I don’t have to take up valuable real estate inside the freezer on my refrigerator. More room for food.

Enjoy This Wonderful little R2D2 IceMaker!
Ladies and Gentlemen, This dude is like the R2D2 of the icemaking world, obedient, and does his job. There are no frills, just cranks out ice. The ice it cranks out is super cold which makes your drink colder and last longer. There is one little secret that probably peeves people, every 2-3 weeks you have to defrost it. So I uploaded a video of what I do. Since I have a blower fan I aim it right into the frost and let it totally defrost and dry out. Takes 20 minutes. I'll bet if you don't use a fan you may leave it sit there an hour or longer before it is totally defrosted, and you want it totally defrosted because you don't want water seizing up the otherwise moving components of the cube maker. I defrosted it the other day and by chance about a day later a cube happened to jump sideways and block the rotary action of the cube maker. I spotted the problem, did another full defrost and it was working just fine. My wife was in icecube maker PTSD from out other "reservoir ice cube makers" (always causing problems) and wanted to file a warranty claim, thinking this was the same issue. Honey, it wasn't fully defrosted before you turned it on last time, try it again, and sure enough, that is the secret. Let's be honest, if you get one of those ice cube makers that have a little reservoir and you fill it up, what happens is bacteria and algae always make their way into those systems, and there is no real solution except to shock that ice cube maker with some anti-algae solution. We have had those other ones, they work great for 2 months, and then here comes the green funk again and after that, it is a constant maintenance nightmare. Not so with this one! Here is another little secret, I found a float and valve system for those reservoir ice cube makers that automatically filled up the reservoir, so you didn't have to pour it in from a water pitcher, guess what? I still got algae in it. Will never get one with a water reservoir again ever...! Contrast that maintenance to this one which is simply defrosting it. You could just turn it off overnight one night and that would do the trick, but I take the blower fan and get'er done. What I also do, is since it fills ice up so fast and it sort of creates that ice pile at the top which is always somewhat cumbersome when you go get ice, I take the whole tray and fill up my little Coleman cooler, its about 1 ft/square, and put the ice tray back in the ice maker and let it role. That also reduces the frequency I need to defrost the ice cube maker because I'm not opening the ice cube maker's door all of the time, because I'm pulling ice from the little cooler on the countertop. I'll fill the cooler up once a day for example... If I ever have to swap this out I'll probably go with making an icemaker using an ice chest. I like cold ice just like this because it works best. "Warm Ice" makers are nice (like the ones at pizza shops or chickfilet etc) but I don't have a good drain point anywhere and frankly I would rather have super cold ice anyhow (I'm a pragmatist)... Enjoy this wonderful little R2D2 IceMaker.

Edge Star Icemaker
I hooked up the icemaker into my reverse osmosis water supply under the sink. Since reading the reviews I replaced the plastic nut on the water line input with a brass nut and compression fitting. Nice and tight, no leaks. Plugged the unit in and turned it on. Nice and quiet operation compared to our old counter top icemaker. After ten minuets of operation there was a puddle of water under the icemaker. The water came from the water shutoff solenoid inside the icemaker. I had to remove the back grate, and push the palstic tubing into the plastic fitting tighter than when it was originally assembled. Obviously this icemaker was not tested at the factory or this defect would have presented itself. After I repared the icemakers water system, i let it run overnight. The yield was less than impressive. With the icemaker running for about 12 hours, it produced ice that filled the bin by about 1/3. Enough for three soda drinks in large tumblers. I expect that we will out use the available ice each day this summer. If we use the icemaker to its yield capacity each day, it will be running constantly. At 350 watts of power while running, that's some pretty expensive ice. That power consumption is the equivalent of my refrigerator / freezer running 24 hours a day. So in summary, It's better than the countertop icemaker that I was previously using because I don't have to manually fill it with water. It produces about 1/3 the ice yield as the countertop icemaker. It uses 100 watts more power than the countertop icemaker. It runs much quieter, and the ice remains in a freezer compartment, so it doesn't melt like the ice in a countertop icemaker. Overall, it's nothing to write home about. The customer should not have to repair a brand new item to get it working the first time. The only reason that I repaired it was because I did not want to pay to ship it back for a simple repair.

Do NOT buy this ice machine!!!!
I have purchased hundreds of items from Amazon, and this Edgestar Ice Machine was the biggest disappointment in over 20 years. It worked for about 6 months, but during this time is froze up solid about every 10 days. So while it worked, it was a lot of maintenance. Month 7-8 it stopped making ice completely.... I contacted Edgestar and they were not able to offer any advice, other than you need to order a new controller. It took 3 months to arrive (no ice during this time) I installed it, and still not working. I called again to Edgestar and they said it sounds like you need a water control valve. I ordered the water control valve on Jan 20, 2023. It is now April, I just called them and they said the part wont be here until Mid June!!! It's all coming from China, and the quality is as bad as the customer service. I am out over $500.00!!! I will file a claim with Amazon and see if they can remove this vendor. I hope this review helps others avoid this bad product and company
