The Bluegrass Gospel Songbook Perfect Paperback – November 10, 2006

Love the songs and the back ground on the songs. I originally bought the book so that our guitar trio could learn Who will sing for me. I've bought five copies so that I can play and sing with others. My favorites that I had never heard before are: A Beautiful Life, My old Mtn home, Oh those tombs, I've just seen the Rock of Ages, warfareI bought it for Won't you come and Sing for Me because I couldn't find it anywhere else and come to love it for the new treasures.I had mine spiral bound so that it lays flatWayne, if you ever do an update would be nice to put the cords in the text of the other verses So that I could play the chords and sing the other verses.

His Rural Roots of Bluegrass songbook is great, but this may be Wayne Erbsen's best effort to date . 100+ well-chosen songs in lead sheet format with lyrics, melody and chords plus the history of the more popular songs make this songbook a great reference collection. But there is more. Wayne also includes a history of bluegrass gospel, the basic music theory behind it, and a great explanation of bluegrass and bluegrass gospel lead and harmony singing. If you only get one book about bluegrass gospel, this is the book you should have.

I am so impressed with this book. It is more than just a book of cords, although it is that for sure. It has pictures, history, and tips. There are pages of tips of different kinds, some examples are: how that play blue grass, how to harmonize, music theory.

Bluegrass Gospel fans, this is the songbook to own. The beginning of the book starts out with wonderful 101 information on the roots of gospel bluegrass, singing harmony and using the guitar in Bluegrass Music. Lots of great information on each song with nice b/w old time photos. The songs only consist of the melody. I would have liked to see all four parts of the music written out, but all in all a great songbook!

I bought this copy so I could give my former band leader back the copy she had loaned me. Erbson does a good job explaining the Bluegrass Gospel tradition in the first pages. And his background on each song is interesting. The only drawback is that songs are presented with lead lyrics, standard notation melody, and chords. If you are looking for a source for 4-part vocal harmonies, this is not the book.

These are great books for individuals who can read music and play the a musical instrument My father has been looking for bluegrass music book that he would be able to play and maybe even learn a few new songs as he plays his guitar for the elderly care centers in his town. We were looking all over for a book that was the perfect where he could read it and still be able to play. he is self taught and older so he is so set in his ways so this was quite the challenge. I am happy to say he loves the book. I am sure i will end up getting a few more for him.

Great songs and arrangements, nice layout and like all of Wayne Erbsen's books, well thought out in regards to content and execution.

This book is defintely more versatile and helpful than either Hal Leonard's GOSPEL HYMNS or Mel Bey's book of 100 THREE CHORD GOSPEL HYMNS AND SONGS. Unlike the former, Erbsen's book gives the complete melody line; and unlike the latter, the songs are in a variety of easy keys with the guitar chord plainly given above the music. Very highly recommended.

Bought this for my husband and he is really enjoying it.

Great resource for anyone who wants to sing and play bluegrass gospel songs. The songs glorify Jesus and Biblical truth. Background history and information is very interesting and great reading. Well done and thanks to Wayne Erbson - be seeing you in Gloryland.
