Psalms of a Laywoman Gift Ed Edition

An excellently written collection of poems that are deeply profound and easy for all readers to enjoy and to learn more about a deep spirituality with emphasis on the Divine Love of God.I strongly encourage anyone to read this book who would like to understand (written in contemporary English) contemplation and union with God described historically in Christian Classic by those such as: Teresa of Availa, John of the Cross, Augustine of Hippo, Thomas Merton, Julian of Norwich, the Rhineland Mystics, Mechthild of Magdeburg and other Beguines and Beghards in the lay seimi-monastic movement in northern Europe in the 13th - 16th centuries.I found reading Edwina's book, In God's Womb, A Spiritual Memoir, was an excellent companion to this book of poems as both are arranged chronologically in sections describing her life and spiritual journey. Each book compliments and amplifies the other book providing additional details of her experiences. Both are written in a straightforward, clear manner and make it easy to understand experiences that historically have been difficult to describe.

Psalm of a Laywoman is a gem of a book. It would make a wonderful gift to someone who is just dipping her toes in Godly waters. The last lines of "This Moment" are typically delightful: Rejoice in this moment! Steal away in glee to a secret corner Like a thief rewarded. This moment is mine--mine all alone.And it is small enough to tuck into purse or suitcase. A wonderful companion on a journey!

I have used this book as a meditation resource for Bible study groups, and the readings have been very well received. Gately has a very poetic and articulate way of expressing faith issues.
