Pretty good HDMI switch
I recently purchased this item to replace one of the small "auto" switches due to adding a soundbar to my TV. When I connected a Roku 3, PS4 & DirecTV DVR to the auto switch it would no longer switch between connections. I believe this is due to the Roku "always on" configuration.I needed a switch with a remote (or front button at least) and this fit the bill. The remote uses a typical button battery and I had no issue installing the provided battery. I have no data on how long it will last yet. As long as it's pointed directly at the unit it seems to work just fine. The only weird thing is the direction arrows appear to cycle backwards. I expected the up arrow to cycle in order (1, 2, 3) however it appears to go in reverse to logic (3, 2, 1). There are 3x direct input button so as long as you remember what device is on which port the arrows are not needed. As far as the physical unit, it is very small (which is a good thing) and feels well made. The lights are fairly bright but shouldn't be distracting unless its directly below your TV at eye level. I have noticed no heat issues even sitting on a shelf wedged between the side panel and the DirecTV DVR.The power input is on the side, which in a bit cumbersome, and the power cord has a straight plug [at the unit] instead of a 90 degree plug which would make placement much easier. The only issue I have had so far is that switching to the DirecTV DVR seems to take a 5-10 extra seconds where the sound comes through but the screen remains black. Occasionally I will get a warning pop-up about the TV not being HDCP complaint. The TV is an LG LCD that never has that issue when directly connected to the receiver. I have to assume there is some sort of handshake issue with switch. At this point it always goes away and never comes back when changing channels. I have noticed more frequent video-audio sync issues but it isn't on every channel so it may be DTV related. All in all I am happy with the purchase and the rest of my family had no issue figuring it out after it was installed.

Better option for always-on devices
This is a review of the J-Tech four port HDMI switch with PIP, ASIN B00OJMAXZ2.I bought this to replace an auto-switching 4-port HDMI switch, which I put up with for months: It was switching inputs in the middle of watching programs, for no apparent reason. There are tons of auto-switching units out there. My guess is they're all built around the same lousy chip that does not offer a disable option. The problem is, only one of my HDMI devices has a traditional on-off switch. My Google Chrome and Apple TV are not designed to be turned off, which does not mesh well with HDMI auto-switching. Especially when the devices are located remotely. For my application, the key feature of this switch is that I can turn off the "Auto" switching function. I would prefer a hardware slide switch instead of the electronic switching, but I couldn't find one of those at any reasonable price. So this will have to do. My application is multiple HDMI devices on a rack, mounted 50 feet away from the TV. So, all the pretty lights on the front panel of the J-Tech make my laundry room look a little more like Christmas. The PIP function is actually helpful, too, as I can see that my other always-on devices are, in fact, working. There's no explanatory info on the PIP functions in the brief manual, so I'm not really clear on when the PIP shows up and disappears. But it does seem to show up when switching and disappears shortly thereafter. The remote control has soft pushbuttons which are helpful, but the manual does not fully explain all the buttons. The input LEDs are right - to - left (4, 3, 2, 1) on the front panel, which seems odd to me but has no effect in my setup. I'll guess that the board was designed by somebody who spoke a language that reads right to left. This was a lifesaver for me, and I'll never buy another auto-switching HDMI switch again.I paid the street price for this unit, and I was not compensated in any way by anyone for writing this.

Static issues. Edit: customer service contacted
I cannot believe I did not return this item when I had the chance. Buyer Beware. If you have this product and it goes to static at anytime during your return period, return it. It will not get better. It went to static the first couple days I had it, to resolve the issue you change the output, then change it back by pushing the Source button. I figured this was just a glitch. 2 months later it is doing it much more often. I cannot believe I paid a premium for a device that works no better than the less expensive devices. I don't think having a product like this should have a return policy limited to less than 3 months. I bought this in May on Amazon, shipped from J-Tech and it sucks. I made sure to post my feeling about this on other sites so others know as well. I don't think I need to include a photo, just google static and you will see images. But I will post a picture of my hookup.Edit Sat Aug 8th 2015I was notified by Customer Service that the device has a one year warranty. And they offered a replacement device. I requested a return label and replacement device. I am updating this to 3 stars until I get and test the replacement. Fingers crossed that I have a defective device.Edit: 9/11/2015After a week of testing the new unit I have no more issues to report. It appears that my initial device was malfunctioning, and that the replacement works perfect. I don't notice any color or quality degradation from connecting directly to the projectors hdmi. I have updated my review to five stars, which is what the working product deserves. The company was quick to remedy my issues and responded to all my emails. I would definitely recommend to a friend. I feel that I really was unlucky getting a non working one, because the build quality is actually really solid.
