Walter Lure, best known as co-frontman and songwriter of the Heartbreakers, also led his own band, The Waldos. Their debut 'Rent Party' was released in 1994. This reissue CD has four bonus tracks, from the 'Crazy Little Baby' 7" of 1991 and two from a 1979 single released by 'The Blessed'. Sadly, Walter died in August 2020, the last of the 'L. A. M. F. ' Heartbreakers. His memoir "To Hell And Back: My Life In Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers - In The Words Of The Last Man Standing" will be published by Backbeat in paperback edition on June 1, 2021. Upon the original 'Rent Party' release, AllMusic. Com said - "The long awaited Waldos album proved to be a big success, at least artistically... The Waldos tear through a set of tunes that are as much fun as a CD can have with it's clothes on. "Walter Lure's guitar-sparring partner in The Waldos in place of Johnny Thunders is Joey Pinter, whose self-titled solo album was released in 2015. The rest of the band is the late Tony Coiro on bass and Jeff West on drums except on the bonus 7" tracks, the late Charlie Sox. The album features six Walter Lure originals, plus covers of Jerry Nolan, Gary US Bonds, Claudine Clark and Ray Charles songs.

RENT PARTY,This disc has more hits than the Sopranos.
By the time the RAMONES were shaking stadiums in Mexico and Brazil, Walter Lure's corner gang of gutter snipes had taken their place as C.B.G.B.'s neighborhood house band. THE WALDOS shows were spontaneous and frantic blow outs that might see any number of their friends like Johnny Thunders or Billy Rogers joining them onstage to rocket recklessly through their many exciting songs. Their producer Andy Shernoff, the Dictators primo songwriter captured the original band at the peak of their power pop meets gutter punk glory. Songs like, "Love That Kills", "Flight", and "Never Get Away" attach themselves to your memory like gum on your leopardskin Creepers. Essential listening for fans of the NY Dolls, Heartbreakers, Dictators, or Rolling Stones. Walter Lure's old band, the Heartbreakers made one of the all time most important underground rock records and toured England with the Sex Pistols, but to me, this album, "RENT PARTY" is a lot more fun. Scowling guitar hero, bluesman Joey Pinter threw shapes like Townshend and J.T., but played dangerous leads as if his life depended on it. A lovable bunch of hoodlums and trouble makers, THE WALDOS were undoubtedly the last great party band. Jungle Records finally re-releases their classic album with their definitive line-up: Walter Lure, Jeff West, Joey Pinter, and the late Tony Coiro. This disc has more hits than the Sopranos.

It's a dance Party!
This is a terrific re-issue of a 1994 disc that's rare as hen's teeth. The Waldos live performances have always been something special and this is an exceptional recording.Walter Lure has managed to stay alive when all around him his bandmates and friends have left this world behind. Thankfully he still rocks out when the mood strikes him and he always attracts talented musicians to jam with. This will bring back memories of Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, The Ramones, the New York Dolls and the rest of the glam/punks who burned the candle too brightly.Excellent disc that will make you feel like it's 1979 and you're young and surly-with-a-smile.

Walter Lure keeps carryin' the fire for NYC guitars!
Wow...I was expecting a decent CD, but this really blew me away! An all-too-fast set of 12 rockers...there's even a slower paced mellow NYC rocker as well (Golden Days). Walter was always the glue that held the band together when Johnny Thunders was having an off-night, in addition to being JT's equal partner both onstage and with the songwritin' pen & paper. Here he proves he can do it on his own. On "Flight" (a Heartbreakers mk. I song from the Richard Hell days), you would swear Johnny is singing background vocals. Andy Shernoff (The Dictators) produced this.I really enjoy this disc. Perfect for a ride into the city or out to the party with your friends.Don't chintz and get a used copy. Buy a new CD and support Walter!

As a huge fan of the New York Glam and ...
As a huge fan of the New York Glam and Punk scene from the 70's this was a no brainer given the musical heritage of the main man in the band.....and it delivers perfectly a nostalgic slice of that era with the energy of a new band in full flow....

Timely reissue of the best rock'n'roll album of the 90's
I still have the original CD released on Sympathy in '94 and the vinyl reissue from a few years back, but this is the kind of album that's worth owning 3 times. Just buy it already.
