Heininger Automotive PortablePet Twistep Extension Bracket 3053

REQUIRED for 2020 Expedition
LOVE this step. This is the second one I have owned. The problem tho, was that my old vehicle was a 2016 Expedition and this one is a 2020 Expedition. Ford changed the height of the hitch in relation to the spare tire and I needed an extra inch for clearance. Called Heininger and they, as usual, were awesome and pointed me to this part. Apparently GM has had a clearance issue for years and the Ford clearance issue was new to them.

bent bracket
After less than two years of use, the bracket has bent. I contacted the manufacturer asking them to replace it but instead of standing behind their product, they offered me 40% off a new one because they were of the opinion that I had either backed into something, or because someone had hit the twiststep, neither of which was true. The bracket broke because my two 85 pound german shepherds jumped on it for two years during the course of normal wear and tear. Beware of twiststep products and their customer service

I had the swing step

Returned
I'm not happy with this extension. If you were to be rear ended, I can't trust that this bracket with a few screws would hold up. I have the original Twistep from around 2002. I had a welder extend the pipe and make a new platform. I have been hit more than once in city traffic or parking lots. No damage to the mounting pipes. Just dents in the platform.

Not for the big loads
I'm sure this would work great for lighter loads, but it bent under the weight of my English Mastiff
