It's Never Too Late....
Another heartwarming story from Alan Titchmarsh. Timothy Gandy has had a successful career, has three grown up children and a marriage that has become somewhat moribund; he and his wife tolerate each other and Gandy has resigned himself to a life without much to look forward to. That is until he is suddenly (if tragically) released from his hen-pecked existence. He will embark on something many of us might have considered at some time - a Grand Tour of Europe - much to the dismay of his children, particularly his son and daughter-in-law Oliver and Vita who see their inheritance being put in jeopardy. He sets off with the full support of his favourite daughter and her partner Ace and grand-daughter Alice - first stop Paris. His encounters on this journey of a lifetime are unexpected and endearing. He might be somewhat naive when it comes to new relationships but he has a heart of gold, which leads him to an event that will change his whole outlook on life.A charming tale of a man following his lifetime's ambition on the Grand Tour....

Excellent!
What a sweet tale this was to read - gentle, bitter-sweet and yet managing to deal with issues of the heart and character which beset us all from time to time. Has it left itself open to a second book, I wonder? I do hope so, I'd really like Timothy's tale to have a grand finale!

I loved it. How wonderful for Tim to get away ...
As we are going on a bit of a European tour shortly I thought this book may get me in the mood. I loved it. How wonderful for Tim to get away to see some of the places his wife wouldn't go to with him. It was funny and poignant and I was disappointed when it finished. I could hear Alan's voice in the style of writing.

Loved it !
How I enjoyed this gentle story. It's a tale of a middle aged man finding himself after a failed marriage. His travels & adventures in Europe are a joy to read & although I more or less guessed the ending, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you

Fulfilling ones dreams is all you want out of lives!
Very much enjoyed this story, having visited some of these places. The characters, showing that we all have fears of not counting our selves as deserving happyness and fulfilling our dreams. I have read all of Alan's fictional books with great pleasure, and enjoyment.

Beautiful story
Although the story was quite beautiful, the language and style were abysmal It read like a year nine student was trying to tick every box in the creative writing success criteria. Why does he use the word replete so frequently? He also repeats cheek to jowl. The flow is spoiled by making every sentence a complex one with fronted adverbials.

Unbelievably believable
An enjoyable story of a man's lone adventures in Europe with complex family relations and feelings to boot. Those he meets are sometimes unbelievable but colourful characters who bring out the true 'finding yourself' experiences leading to surprising outcomes. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter add a value to the reading experience. A good novel which is hard to put down once started. Recommended for all, especially the 'retiring type' ready for adventure...
