The Penguin Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory

Cannot work without this book alongside me. Great cross referencing which opens up so many more possibilities

As I study English Literature, this has been particularly useful in essay writing and exam preparation. Looking up terms is quick, easy, and the results are (unfortunately often in contrast to online research) trustworthy. Would recommend this to anyone currently studying Literature!

Very lovely book that provides sufficient coverage over most literary theory terms and literary devices. A must read for any literature student! I particularly appreciated the section about aestheticism.

This book was recommended for me from other AP Lit teachers and they were all correct. So many terms defined with solid examples of works for most terms. A great resource for this class.

A must book for every English literature student/philologist

Had to acquire this book for studying reasons. My university lecturer made us buy it, since it ought to help us. And guess what: it did. Truely awesome explanations in this thing. I don't know, that I would buy it, just for looking up some definitions, still it's a more complete work than wiki anyways.The entries are comparable to OED style entries. Very nice to read and packed full of useful hints.

J'ai acheté cet ouvrage pour la préparation au CAPES, puisque j'ai commencé la littérature anglophone au niveau Master sans en avoir fait en licene et avait sérieusement besoin de me mettre à jour. Il est très complet, et les explications de certains termes renvoient à des notions en lien avec le terme concerné. Les définitions sont simples et claires, et donnent parfois le contexte historique ou l'étymologie du terme, lorsque c'est utile. Il est accessible à tous, il n'y a pas besoin d'être un expert en littérature pour comprendre les définitions.Bref, certainement l'achat le plus utile que j'ai fait pour cette matiere, il surpasse l'ouvrage de F. Grellet souvent conseillé pour cette matière.
