Rothco Enhanced Nylon Butt Pack

I picked this up after watching Corporals Corner on youtube. If you are into bushcraft stuff check it out. This pack attaches to a military web belt, throw on a couple of canteens, and the LC-2 shoulder straps and its a great day hiking set up (I ordered everything from Amazon). Its tough nylon ripstop material, yet lighter than older military canvas ones its modeled after. It will hold a poncho or rain shell jacket, some snacks, and other items. Pretty much everything you need for an all day hiking trip.

For the price, it's durable and well made. The cinch straps arepretty long which allowed me to strap a small jacket under them. Perfect for my day hiking needs. I love this bag. My only frustration is that the mounts for suspenders are right above where the ALICE clips attach to the bag, so the whole thing wants to sag backwards away from the belt. I modified the bag by moving the plastic anchors to the top edge of the bag and using those to attach the bag to my pistol belt. I hope the photos help demonstrate a little better. With that small modification, the bag now hangs very neatly off the belt with or without suspenders. Some might be concerned that having the plastic anchors inside the belt might be uncomfortable but I can't actually notice them. They sit well away from the spine and the bag pulls on the belt in such a way as to not push them into my back.

Seems good. Would have preferred US Army NOS surplus, but this seems adequate as to sturdiness. Haven’t tested it hard; YMMV

This butt pack doesn't have the capability to be fastened directly to the suspenders as the old butt packs do. If you use a "H" Suspenders, you could probably run the straps that come with the pack through the back suspender adjustors. I use the "Y" suspenders and secure by using alice clips. The "Y" suspender does ride high, but the weight of the butt pack, brings it to a comfortable level if you balance the load. The butt pack has a carrying handle on top. Very Good. I have tested it. It also has inside what appears to be a water proof material that fold over the stuff you put it to keep it dry. You can put a lot of stuff in it. You can attach stuff like a flash light, or canteen to the outside. Very well made. A very good buy...............

When I was a teenager, I got a Vietnam War era army butt pack from an Army and Navy store and fell in love with it. It was sturdy, water resistant and could be carried with either a shoulder belt or clipped to a pistol belt. After years of moving around from one continent to another, it was lost. So, I have been looking around to find a replacement. This one from Rothco is supposed to be an enhanced one which means updated or modernized. It is made of nylon, but the material feels thinner than the one I used to have. This one is much bigger in size and about the size of a MOLLE sustainment pouch. The fabric inside seems to have a coat of plastic to it, but it is no where near the feel of the inside of a sustainment pouch. So, I don't think it will resist water, and rain from a heavy shower or storm is likely to penetrate it. Inside the pack, there is a nylon collar with drawstrings. This is to make the pack water resistant. The nylon collar is of a harder material than my old Vietnam era butt pack. This makes it very hard to draw the drawstrings together to close the collar to make it water resistant. Also, the drawstrings do not have the drawstring-cinch-barrel that you will find in sustainment pouches. In my Vietnam era butt pack, the nylon collar goes all the way down to the cover the entire inside of the pack. This one is just the collar and the nylon fabric does not cover the inside of the entire pack. So, because the outside fabric is not very water resistant, rain water may still penetrate into the pack though the walls. This totally defeats the idea of the nylon collar to make the pack water resistant. The cover is closed by two quick release buckles. On top, there is a carry handle formed from a piece of nylon strap. I am a bit concerned that the stitching may not hold up. Looks a bit flimsy to me. There is a thick strap covering both sides and the back of the pack for additional items to be clipped onto it. Again the stitching is my concern. At the back, there are two ALICE belt clips. There are also two plastic buckles and D-rings and nylon straps for carrying extra gears. Their locations right above the belt clips make their usefulness very doubtful and may even create discomfort when a full load is carried and the plastic buckles and D-rings rub against your back. Further, the ALICE belt clips are located very low on the back of the butt pack. I fear that the center of gravity of a fully loaded pack will pull the pistol belt out and away from my waist. This may require using a Y-suspender to draw the pistol belt back to the body. Lastly, there is no clear plastic name tag slot at the back.

Good quality bag and very roomy. Fits my ALICE gear very well. I read other reviews where people had troubles getting it lined up on their belt properly and not getting in the way the suspenders. I’m not sure what they’re doing wrong but I had no problems.

I have an 'issue' pack (camo pattern) that I use as a sissy bar bag for my motorcycle. I love it. It attaches easily, has plenty of expandable room, is durable, and has a waterproof lining. I ordered this Rothco one becuase I wanted a black one to match the bike. In essence, it is the same cut and design and works perfectly. It's not quite the same quality as my 'issue' bag but for the price, it's a good deal and it looks good/performs well. If you want the better quality and don't mind the camo design, get a GI issue one, otherwise, this one will work.

Good price and quality. I like metal clips and molle straps. I would recommend this item.
