From the deserts of South African comes Fenestraria, more commonly known as "Baby Toes." This unusual plant belongs to the large family of Aizoaceae. These are also known as "mimicry" plants, as they are particularly good at camouflaging and blending into their environment. "Baby Toes" gets into name from its finger-like leaves in upright clusters. Each "finger" of the plant features a translucent window. Sunlight filters through the window to enable photosynthesis. In desert environments, oftentimes only the window is visible above the sand. At home, plant "Baby Toes" in soil with less organic material and more gritty fill such as gravel, pumice, or perlite. This will help provide essential drainage. "Baby Toes" also needs bright light and well-drained soil. It is somewhat frost tolerant, but will need to be protected to prevent scarring. Watch "Baby Toes" in the late summer through fall, when it will bloom with bright, 2-inch yellow flowers. Note: Any accessories pictured are not included, for illustrative purposes only.

Disappointed
This little guy got to me in terrible shape.. his dirt was everywhere, he had broken leaves and the flower was pretty much dead. Sadly I had to do some much needed TLC surgery on him and got rid of the flower and broken leaves. I’m pretty bummed out because the pictures they advertised look so healthy and nice. I hope with my care, my baby toes can slowly recover and bloom. I don’t recommend

plant arrived out of dirt and has died
I had high hopes of this plant. minimal amount of care, but on arrival the plant was out of the pot and the dirt was everywhere. We tried putting it back into the pot with the soil that came with it and watered well, then let it dry out. 1/2 the plant was dead. Watered again did little to help.

Squishy Stems
The plant came to me with the stems squishy and dying. I thought I would try to pot it and improve it but now the plant is almost completely dead. I potted it in cactus and succulent soil and watered it. A few days later it did not improve and now all the stems are squishy.
