Propolis will last a long, long time...years, if it's kept in an airtight container, like a mason jar. It has some similarities to honey, and archaeologists have actually eaten 3000 year-old honey found in Egyptian tombs. They said it was crystallized, but still tasted like honey. You can store propolis at room temperature, but if you want to work with a small amount, you can chill or freeze it in a plastic bag, and then you can shatter it into smaller pieces on the counter or with a large spoon. If you want to powderize it, just freeze it for a few hours, then drop it in a coffee grinder. It can be kind of messy, but you can clean it up with isopropyl or grain alcohol.

Use 80% (160 proof) liqueur. freeze propolis to help the grating. Grate it into smallest possible pieces. Add about twice as much liqueur as you have grated propolis and let it sit for at least a week. (Shake it as often as possible, the smaller the propolis is grated the better)
