Great Read
I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters were authentic and likable. The book is a great representation of what I consider being a skinhead is all about. I could identify with both the characters of Terry and Ray. I think I land somewhere in the middle between the two personally. The story is provocative, and I found myself always looking forward to my next opportunity to pick up the book again. I especially liked the way the author depicted Ray, his conflicts, and his views of patriotism versus nationalism. Highly recommended.

Raggae, Ska und Oi for England
Drei Generationen Skinheads, drei Generationen Skinhead-Musik.

Speravo meglio
Bramato per mesi e irreperibile nelle librerie alla fine ho ceduto all'impulso dell'acquisto on line.

Excellent, informative and surprising book -- well worth the read!
John King's excellently told tale of the world and history of English skinheads -- and an important view of the white English poor, that also gives a meaningful reflection on the English class system. Much more than just a pulp novel of skinheads. And a book that might meaningfully surprise the American reader. An excellent contribution to the John King collection (eg The Football Factory, and England Away -- both classics). Put some old ska on and sit back and read. Might even get you to shave your head!

The real deal
There isn't much written that narrates the traditional views and values of the British working class culture. I have enjoyed several of John King's books previous to reading this one, and thought this was one of his best. Not just a book about a street thug telling war stories, rather a generational view of a culture from its roots till present. Great book.

Skinheads John King
The Skinhead generation has never had anything to do with racism, it's actually the other way around. The first generation of Skinheads embraced the music of the time period from 1968 to 1971 and hung out with their Jamaican friends and at times protected their black friends from racism. Reggae music came to England 60's not in a big way, but found a loyal following from the working class youth called Skinheads, Reggae music is now part of the culture in England.

The Further Adventures of Ray
There are several characters from Human Punk who show up in this novel: Alfonso, Major Tom and others. The crew from the Football Factory even have a cameo, but the best part is Ray, a.k.a. Ray the nutter oi the nutter or just the nutter! I don't think it's necessary to mention Terry English or his son, read this for Ray. My title suggests what this novel should have been called, then there could be a prequel (Lucas did it, look where he is)I'll let Ray speak for himself, this is Ray on hair styles:"Ray took another look at himself in the car mirror. Having his head shaved perked him up, and he was sure it was the same with the rest of the lads. He didn't understand Samson and those hippies and crusties, greboes lumbering around with gorse covering their faces and mangrove roots hanging down their backs. he was open-minded, believed in democracy, each to their own, the freedom of the individual to express his or herself in whatever way they saw fit, that was only fair, but they were still dirty, smelly skiving c--nts." (King 94)'nuff said, read this book!

Skinheads,Punks and Hooligans.
Another class read from John King, probably not quite as good as the Football Factory, but quality nonetheless. He delves into the lives of a family and its 3 generations of skinheads and their adjustments(or lack thereof) to the changing times. The author has a great feel for the culture and the raw edginess of it comes through every page.A must for the old and new lads of Chelsea FC.

gotta ave a laugh
I really enjoyed this book. Can relate to the main characters. A similar type story to the football trilogy. This is a good read particularly if you're into the skinhead 'scene'. Ive been involved for going on 25 years now and this book is about 'real' people. Not the ones the press and hollywierd like to portray. It aint about racism or politics. Its about being working class and proud. I highly recommend this book and would rate it as one of my favourites.
