The Best of 80's Scream Queens (Blu-ray) (2 DISCS)

Great Linnea Quigley collection
The three movies on this set, from my point of view, are very enjoyable. I prefer the 80's horror movies to the current ones because there is less violence.

Watch Porn Instead
Two of the films in this set, Deadly Embrace and Nightmare Sisters, can barely be classed as films. Despite the “star power” of Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer and Brinke Stevens there’s no reason to watch these two unless you want to see some awkward nudity in between scenes of nothing happening. Nightmare Sisters has a vaguely racist Indian stereotype character and has the nerve to make fun of the Exorcist, so I guess there’s that?Murder Weapon fares a little better and, despite a tedious first half, is actually a fun low-budget slasher film once it gets going, complete with goofy acting and baffling plot twists. This set is an odd little time capsule for a period when you could make a film on a minuscule budget and with minimal talent behind or in front of the camera and still get it distributed. Those with an interest in exploitation films and ultra-low-budget productions may find this Blu-Ray set interesting.

Not the best!
The title is hardly accurate. Although Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer and Brinke Stevens are listed on the cover, it’s only the first of these three “Scream Queens” that appears in all three movies and only one – “Nightmare Sisters” – has the slightest horror connections. But it’s more “beer and popcorn” comedy fodder about three goofy college girls who, after a séance, turn demonic, naked and start hitting on the lads!“Murder Weapon” and “Deadly Embrace” are pretty tedious affairs, with lack lustre acting complemented by dull screenplays, both only stepping up the action during the final 15 minutes or so. All three movies are directed by David DeCoteau, though distancing himself under the alias Ellen Cabot on “Weapon” and “Embrace”, with Quigley and Karen Russell wiping out old boyfriends in the first and the second has bored housewife Ty Randolph playing around with the hired hand. Here a naked Michelle Bauer makes frequent appearances as the “female spirit of sex” though, like the sex scenes themselves, is hardly erotic. Both Linnea Quigley and director DeCoteau have far better films to their credit and, as far as guilty pleasures are concerned, more guilt came from forking out cash for this collection.
