This sundial may or may not actually function, I never really expected it to do that. What I did expect however was sufficient quality for presentation as an interesting memento, and in that regard I was disappointed. The device is listed as a 5 inch unit, and as you can see from the photo, that is taking a large rounding-up liberty. The dial itself is just under three inches, for reference. The compass nnedle seems to be hung on something and does not work. The presentation box exterior is nice, for something at this price point. The box interior lining however, was shredded in several places (as shown in the second photo) and in fact makes the box look too tacky to present. If you are "crafty" you could probably re-line the interior and make it presentable; I am not. The root cause of the interior degradation is the presence of very sharp manufacturing spurs on the three adjuster screw bottoms. These could have easily been sanded prior to shipping and would have likely avoided tearing up the box lining. Also a cautionary note, this unit caused significant scratches in my varnished wood table top before I noted the spurs. It you order one of these, I recommend sanding those spurs off first thing. I plan to keep sundial this as an interesting trinket to help teach my grandsons about sundials and latitude/longitude effects, but I do not plan to use it as a gift or presentation item.

I purchased 2 of these and will give them to officers of a boating organization and I'm sure they will love them. Very nicely made and a good price.

The compass itself is beautiful. Just like the pictures. The box however... Well, see my pictures. It came cracked and obviously warped. I'm surprised the compass came out unscathed! I'd like a replacement box if possible.

The felt bottom inside of box damage...Need to wrap leveling legs so not to damage felt...See Picture...This was suppose to be gift....NOT NOW!..Very unhappy....
