Great for dogs!
Have two of these now for the various strays that roam the neighborhood & sometimes get aggressive when we're out in the yard. Doesn't actually harm the animal, just makes it want to be somewhere else, & quickly than waiting for animal control to arrive. Just don't spray into the wind!

A must for travelers by car or field workers
My daughter works for a state's DNR and is often traveling alone. They carry this on their belt for any problems or animals. Last year, she had three stray and wild packs of dogs-if you could call them that, she truly believes this saved her life. For anyone traveling for work on the road, this is great to have in your car or in your hotel room at night.

Will stop attacking dogs
We have neighbors that can’t keep their dogs under control(even though the local law requires it) and while out in my front yard a pit bull came running at me. Fortunately this mace can was close and I let him have a full stream right in the face. He went howling back home dragging his head through the grass. If he even comes close to me I can raise my hand like I have the spray with me and he stops dead in his tracks. My wife walks in the neighborhood and she always has this with her. Good protection!

Adequate.
Buy an extra can to practice. Then get set for disappointment if you expect up-to-twenty-shots as described in the description.First, about the trigger... Both my wife and I had trouble pressing the trigger button on the first try. You cannot activate the spray just by pressing down the back edge of the trigger. Your thumb or finger must be all of the way under the trigger guard and fully covering the trigger button. This is a good safety feature when you know that it works that way. With an angry dog charging at me, however, the confusion would have had the dog on me before I figured out the trigger in order to defend myself.Aiming, at distances of 10 feet and 15 feet, for both my wife and I, our first shot was 2-3 feet higher than the target. I compensated by simply holding the button down and dropping the stream onto the target. My wife aimed again and scored. In a cross-wind of about 15mph, the end of the stream was blown about one-foot off of target. Again, I compensated by holding the trigger down and turning the stream onto the target. I would not shoot this into the wind. With a total of about 6-8 practice shots, the can was empty. I suppose that the can would give about twenty shots, as noted in the product description if those shots were quick one-second bursts. The variable comes in with steady streams, as I used, at distances of 10-15 feet.I did not live-test this on anyone or any critter. I bought this product to defend against aggressive dogs in our neighborhood. In the last few years, I have been attacked once and I lost one of my dogs to wounds from an attack by a larger dog. The unfettered dogs of those attacks came into my yard.Just weeks ago, my current canine companion was attacked by two large dogs that owners had let out of their fenced yard “since no one was around anyway.” My the dog is recovering from his bite wounds. Their dogs are recovering from the wounds that I inflicted upon them to drive them away.My hope is that this spray will protect my dog and me on our walks, without injuries to the attacking dogs. Should the need to use the spray come about, I will update this review with the results.I did reorder a couple of spare cans of this product. It is adequate for my needs but I feel the description is not exactly accurate.

Don't test in the wind.
First off. This Dustin guy wrote a bad review saying that because his product failed it's "bad". Mace recommends you test it as soon as you get it out of the package. So Dustin, you clearly didn't test yours and you just assumed it worked. Mace didn't put your family in danger. You did. I have never bought a gun and not brought it to the range first.Speaking of testing. Ask me how I know this product works. Go ahead. So Ive owned several mace products but this is my first big boy. I popped the pin, aimed at a tree, hit the switch and BOOM. Big gust of wind at the exact time that fire gel shot across the yard. Now this stuff is gel so there's really not a lot of particles that spray out but it was enough that I was coughing, crying, sneezing, drooling, snot bubbling, whimpering, all at the same time. I couldn't imagine a straight shot to the face.Anyway, buy it. Don't be like Dustin, test it first.
