Does the food from different compartments get mixed up together?

The lid is fitted to securely seal each compartment separately (not 100% leakproof though. I use bags that carry it flat and have no problems.)

are these microwaveable?

Their website says they are microwaveable but I haven't done it as I don't like to microwave plastic. They are BPA free though.

Anyone else have trouble with the tab breaking off and leaving a jagged plastic point?

The first set we got had a few tabs break. I was impressed enough with the concept of using just one tray instead of umpteen lids and containers that I bought a couple dozen more (6 school age children) they are more cheaply made. They are busting at corners , lids cracking and they don't fit the containers/lids from previous purchase. I came looking to see if they've fixed these issues but don't see that they have. :( now I'm not sure what direction to go....

Will these fit in a packit freezable lunchbag?

They measure 9 3/8" x 6" x 2 1/2". I don't know what size your packit freezable lunch bag is. Hope this helps.
