For how little I spent on this, I was quite happy with its performance! The chainsaw has plenty of power and it does a great job! I only have two complaints, the first being that it’s a corded chainsaw, so you have to drag a cord around wherever you go. But I knew this when I bought it, so that doesn’t count against the product. The second is that there’s no emergency brake, which every chainsaw I’ve ever used prior to this has had. This might be because it’s electric- the chain stops pretty soon after letting your finger off the trigger. But if the saw were to kick back and the chain were still running, there’s a guard but no brake to instantly stop the chain. Again, I’m not sure how critical that is on a chainsaw like this, but it’s good to know. Being an electric chainsaw, it’s nice to only have to supply bar and chain oil and not gas as well. Also, it’s more maneuverable as it’s smaller than a comparable gas chainsaw. Not to mention it’s much quieter, the noise is much less objectionable than a gas chainsaw, and there’s no exhaust to breathe. The chain tensioning mechanism is toolless and like every chainsaw needs periodic tensioning, but I found it to be better than expected at holding the tension. I bought this because of its low cost to help me take a stump out, which is pretty abusive work for a chainsaw. So far it performed quite well! And I wasn’t planning on keeping it around once the job was done, but it’s not a half bad tool! In my experience, Wen builds decent quality tools at an affordable price (I have a few pneumatic nailers from them that I’ve used extensively, and also like.) I would certainly recommend this chainsaw as a good quality low-cost option!

I bought the WEN 4017 Electric Chainsaw and it works great! It’s lightweight, easy to use, and perfect for cutting small trees and branches. What I Like: Powerful Motor: It cuts through wood easily with its 16-inch chain. Lightweight: It’s easy to handle and doesn’t tire me out. Auto-Oiling: Keeps the chain oiled so it runs smoothly. Easy to Use: The chain tension can be adjusted without any tools. No Gas: It’s electric, so I don’t have to deal with gas or fumes. What I Don’t Like: It has a cord, so you’ll need an extension cord to move around. You have to buy oil separately. Overall, this is a great chainsaw for the price and perfect for light yard work. I highly recommend it!

I have a vintage WEN tool when they still manufactured in the USA. It's constructed of classic polished aluminum and a beauty. Fast forward to today- this WEN tool feels like all around plastic, made in China, but a BEAST! I have sliced up to 12" diameter logs of both pecan and mulberry. I could barely feel the difference in density and time it took between the two types of wood. The chain didn't slip once! I made sure to tighten the chain according to the manual (because yes, it was my first time using one but this may be standard or universal) You can see from my photos that I was able to cut through with one pass without rotating the log to cut from the other side. Since it was my first time, I had my father give me a quick run down on tips, tricks, and how not to lose an extremity. I also asked him to test it out for a comparative opinion up against his gas powered chainsaw that every man probably has in his garage. He stated "it cuts really good... because it has a new chain. Just wait until you wear it down." followed by more typical dad advice. "I wouldn't use it in the rain." (My logs were damp from yesterday's rain btw but I insisted on testing this thing out today) Dad continued to advise, "you'll wear the chain out faster." I wanted to cut logs into full boards, "I wouldn't do that if i were you. Take it to a saw mill." I'll take Dad's advice when it comes to handling something with teeth. The one thing I was certain about was getting an electric one because I'm tired of the maintenance with storing gas powered tools and the yanking arm workouts with pull-starts. Lifting a tool without the added weight of a gas tank makes me feel like Kitana cutting fruit. "I'd try to sit it up right when you store it so it doesn't leak oil." - Dad When cutting- "Don't force it. Let it do the work." - Dad "I would've pull the guard off before you plugged it in."- Dad But dad, "there's a safety on it!" Chinese tool but the manual is very comprehensive. Does not include dad advice in the manual. For $54, I now have a working 16" chainsaw and I'm looking for more reasons to use it. UPDATE- 9 MO. LATER..... I have indeed found many reasons to use it including log donations from the neighbors. While I initially purchased with the mindset of being a disposable chainsaw because it's just so cheap, this thing still rips!!! Only simple common sense maintenance applied. I have ripped boards from logs up to 46" with a fresh chain, no problems. Could a big brand higher CC gas or electric do it faster? Probably. I had planned to eventually invest in the highly rated cordless, battery powered Milwaukee chainsaw since I stick with the brand and have a chest full of batteries. Now, I'm considering the battery powered WEN which is half the price of the Milwaukee bare tool. The WEN planer, grinder, and corded electric chainsaw have ALL proven themselves enough to ask myself "why do i need to spend so much on a bigger brand chainsaw when a WEN does the job?" The only limit is the length of the extension cord which may be a dream to not have. Still a great backyard ruckus bin tool.

I bought this saw to replace my gas powered chainsaw. I was just tired of messing around with the small gas engine after it sits for a few months. No mixing of fuel or pulling on the starter cord, just plug in and it goes. I chose a corded model because I was skeptical of the rechargeable battery versions. It would be a drawback if I wanted to take it to the woods, but I don't. I have a larger property (300' x 150') and I can get pretty much everywhere I need to be with a 100' extension cord. I used this saw to cut down and cut to 8' lengths almost 2 tons (3900 pounds) of Siberian Pea Shrubs with diameters from 2 - 5 inches. I also used it to cut down and cut up a cherry tree with a 12 inch trunk. It is as powerful as a comparable gas saw. The chain tension is easy to adjust using controls on the side. No wrench needed. My only suggestion would be to have a chain brake, but with proper protective gear it's a minor concern. It will leak chain oil if stored with the reservoir full, so empty it when not in use. A great little saw.
