Q: Would this work to power beyerdynamic dt990's pro 250ohm on the ps5?

This is great for gaming on PC i wouldn't bother use this with 250 ohm headphones try get some professional DAC like SMSL, Topping, then you can hear the difference. If you prefer creative get G6.

Q: Surely these have to be plugged in so close to the PS4 to be of any use., or am I missing something?

You can either use a USB extension cable or a 3.5mm headphone jack extension lead like I have. I just turn the volume up fully on the app then control the volume using the quick settings on the PS4 (hold down the PS button- volume control) Hope this helps.

Q: Does it have left/right balance settings for making things louder in one ear?

No. You can adjust many things in the app but not L/R balance.

Q: My mic picks up audio? I'm using with the razer kraken x anyone else have this problem people can hear when I watch yt for example

I'm using mine with the Sony xm3 running through my PS5. I've not had any issues. Can't help I'm afraid.
