Perfect
I had a Microsoft marble mouse years ago and another when that one broke. I can't remember what happened to it, but I've longed for one ever since. I specifically wanted one with a mouse so there'd be no issues with batteries or latency in gaming and so I was led to this one. I am very impressed with the design of this mouse. The ball is great (I have it on about 50% speed in the windows settings), the buttons are responsive and you're in no doubt as to whether you've clicked them or not. The scroll wheel is also good and I've not noticed any accidental clicking that others have reported. All buttons are within easy reach of my fingers while my thumb is on the ball.I have it plugged into my desktop and if I want to use my laptop I just have to unplug the cable from the mouse and it switches over straight away.

The best wired trackball, full stop.
Fits well into the hand, ball runs easily and precisely, the additional buttons are useful. The wireless functionality is no good, though. When used in wireless mode, scroll wheel events are dropped, and sometimes a small ball movement is needed to wake the unit up after it has been idle. Which is irritating. In wired mode none of this applies - it all works beautifully.

So Far So Good
This order was the second and third Elecom track balls I've bought, being really pleased with the first one, previously I've had Logitech ones and found that they are short lived, slowly failing to not work at all regardless of how much you clean their sensors; I suspect it is poor quality soldering or components - no such issues have made themselves visible with the Elecom versions. Pairing with a Bluetooth 5.1 USB dongle wasn't an issue, the main complaint being that the instructions although multi-language are so small you struggle to navigate around them to set the mouse up - I downloaded the instructions in PDF format when I down loaded the control software which gives you a massive amount of options depending what you wish to use it with.

Good ergonomics. Variable tracking. Extra buttons not recognised without software.
This is a very comfortable and ergonomic trackball mouse. The shape feels like it will accommodate a wide range of hand sizes. All but one of the buttons are very well placed and easily usable without needing hand repositioning. The buttons are responsive, and I have not had any problems with false/inadvertent triggering. It feels well constructed, lightweight, and has good base pads that keep it in place well.A major disappointment is that the three extra function buttons do absolutely nothing unless the Mouse Assistant software is running. These buttons are not even recognised in any other program otherwise. There is also no option to map any of the buttons to toggle the DPI setting.Once the trackball is moving it is smooth and accurate, but small/fine movements are always 'jerky' and frustrating. It feels like it could do with better quality bearings. With fast movement, the ball is prone to jumping in its socket.I have had no problems with the bluetooth connection on either Windows or Mac laptops. Unfortunately, there is no multi-device pairing, so switching between devices requires re-pairing. I didn't feel the need to try the wireless dongle, even with gaming.Battery life seems good, and the fact that it runs on a single AA battery is a definite positive.Overall, comfortable ergonomics, but very frustrating when trying to make small, accurate movements. Massively let down by the need for the Mouse Assistant software to be running for the extra buttons to even be recognised.

Splendifluous
This mouse is perfectly done - if you like the trackball type. The ergonomics is perfect, the number and position of buttons is perfect. The customisability is perfect. The connectibility is perfect (wired, dongle and bluetooth).I found that if I picked up the trackball to move it, I accidentally triggered the bottom left button, so I just assigned that key to no-action. Why am I moving a trackball around you ask? Good question. I was moving it between the lounge and the office, which is not a normal use case for a trackball. Normally a trackball will just sit happily on your desk all the time, and the question of picking it up does not arise. I'm just saying that if you do do that a lot, you can turn prominent buttons off, or turn the whole mouse off, instead of raising an objection that "there are too many customisable buttons" as people do sometimes when you give them more than they want.Much though I love this mouse, I had to return it. I just can't get my hand to adapt to the trackball style of movement, after several decades of mouse use. So please make sure you are a 'trackball type of person' before you buy!All in all, its hats off to Elecom: they've knocked one out of the park here :-) Well done.

ZERO STARS! Overpriced Rubbish - Not for English!
What an absolute pile of rubbish this is. Not only is there NOTHING IN ENGLISH on the packaging and NOTHING IN ENGLISH in the instructions, YOU CAN NOT GET SOFTWARE to customise the buttons!Overpriced junk!Logitech price for a bit of rubbish that has no English instructions and only works on some devices. Rubbish! Bought for use on an iPad Pro (Bluetooth 4.0). Every bluetooth device tested on iPad Pro works spot on, except this one. The iPad knows it’s there, it can read the battery capacity and it knows what it is but the ball does not work. That is not a failing of the iPad because other similar devices work a treat. I bought this one because I wanted to use a trackball with bluetooth to avoid having to use the receiver but the only way this works is with the receiver plugged in. And did I mention there's not a single word of English instruction provided? Sick of buying cheap rubbish from Amazon!I mentioned earlier that you cannot get software to customise it. I tried. I found the ELECOM website where it mentions software that can be downloaded. The page doesn't list this mouse but I thought I would give it a go but the download link fails anyway.THIS PRODUCT, SOLD IN THE ENGLISH SPEAKING MARKET, DESERVES ZERO STARS!
