Beautiful Virus Shawl with these cakes
I purchased this yarn 2 years ago for a virus shawl project and I loved it. Came here to get more for a new shawl, was trying to find the yardage in a cake (I remembered for my other needing 720 and I needed 2 cakes, I'm looking at one that needs over 2000 yards NOW!) Anyway I saw some of these bad reviews and wanted to address them. Someone said that the color was nothing like the picture. I used Moonstone and the color of the actual cake is not the same but if you look at the pic of the yarn itself it is, granted it doesn't show all the shades and how light some get. Which brings me to the next point. People have talked about the inconsistency of the yarn thickness, you will see that in the pic of the actual yarn too and I did encounter that. I did not cut that part of the yarn out to get past it, I just powered thru the project with the yarn as it was. I'd be hard pressed if I went thru my project to find those areas now. Others said they lost yarn because they couldn't rip it out. I messed up a few times and had to frog a lot, the pattern took four rows to create one pattern row so sometimes I had to go back a row or two! I never had an issue ripping it and didn't lose yarn. I think my virus shawl turned out beautiful, pic attached.

Love this yarn!
I'm an avid crocheter and loom knitter and I absolutely love this yarn. It's not my favorite of all time, but it's definitely in the top 10 or 20, for sure. It's soft, but also has a nice color palette, and I like that it has some metallic kind of accent threads, but they don't interfere with you too much when you're working. I haven't had any issues with splitting or any knots that are too bad, no yarn barf, nothing like that. I've bought all different shades of this yarn because the gradient is so nice, those long color changes are just fantastic in a nice long scarf or something like that. It's just a great yarn, it might be a little "pricey" (maybe I'm just a little cheap), but it's nice and soft, while still being warm, and the colors are fabulous. Great yarn!

Shimmery and Lovely
I used Wind Chimes to make an afghan. Shades of blues and a flash of metallic makes this afghan the prettiest I have every made. I don't have it where I am right now or would post a picture. Not that I can take one that will do it justice.Soft and easy to crochet with. I didn't use any complicated stitches, but did put on a ruffly border just because the yarn seems to scream for a feminine design. My sister saw this yarn and fell in love. I gave her the skein I had left and she has gone on to buy more.

Nice softness
The cakes have fuzzy, colored fibers wrapped around a white core. In some places only the white core is present making the yarn somewhat inconsistent in thickness and color. The color changes are gentle and not abrupt. I think the yarn works better for crochet than knitting, but that is just my opinion. The projects made with this yarn soften and bloom even more after washing. The yarn is easy to wash in the machine, gentle, cold and cold tumble dry, it didn’t shrink.I found the yarn pleasant to work with and it was fun watching the colors change. The shawl shown in the picture is crochet with 2 cakes of “Unique Unicorn”. It’s 20” x 60”.

Same great yarn as Shawl in a Ball – note some older and some newer colorways
When Shawl in a Ball was released a couple of years ago, it quickly became one of my favorite yarns. I was able to make some beautiful scarves as Christmas presents that year and I still continue to make those great scarves. The only problem I had with the yarn was that spooling it out was a bit of a pain. The yarn is fairly thin and doesn't like to revolve easily on my spool. When I tried to use a center pull, it would tangle up pretty quickly. When I saw that Lion had released a cake version of the yarn, I was hoping that it would be the answer to my only issue with the “Shawl” line. And it is!I was able to make a scarf quickly and easily with no tugging or tangling. While I sometimes get a knot in this yarn, in this case, I did not. It usually doesn't matter as the yarn is a self-striping color mix.The yarn is listed as worsted weight 4. It actually changes repeatedly from anywhere from a 2 to a 5 depending on how much acrylic yarn is on the carrying thread. The carrying thread is made of white, crimped looking cotton and the acrylic is wrapped around it. The acrylic is the part of the yarn that changes in color throughout. This yarn is made of 58% cotton, 39% acrylic, and 3% other (the metallic version version is 61% Cotton, 34% Acrylic, 5% Other.) I have no idea what the “other” fiber is in either of the two types of yarn.I made my go-to “shawl” scarf using half-double crochet. For the scarf I made with this yarn, I chained 200 with 2 more chains for turning. I half double crochet into each chain with 2 more chains for turning and repeat until I ran out of yarn. I used a J/10 hook (6mm) as recommended on the skein. It made a scarf that is approximately 86 x 11 inches. As with all of the other “shawl” colorways I have used, the feel of the yarn in hand as I was crocheting was not unpleasant. I could tell that there was cotton due to slight lack of give but the acrylic softened that feeling down considerably. While there was a slight roughness, I would not consider it scratchy. The fabric is very loose and the scarf is thin but that is exactly what I planned for. My daughters are quite tall (over six feet) and I wanted to make a scarf that would work well for them. It scrunches down nicely around the neck.I'm very pleased with the new cake version of this yarn and hope that Lion will release more of the older colors and even newer color ways in this new format.

Adds pizzazz to the project
I bought this and another yarn to combine into a shawl as a gift for me or a dear friend. It did not disappoint. At first it seemed thinner than I expected, but I soon realized that it varies in texture and size which adds complexity to the finished project. I used a lovely teal solid with this. I couldn't have been happier with the results. I can't wait to start another project using this type yarn. Love the colors and the way they distributed throughout the shawl. The metallic adds another dimension that totally delighted me.

Satisfied!
This yarn is really pretty. It's pretty much what I expected. It's hard to take stitches out once made, so it's best used on patterns you know. It's not super soft, but more so than I expected. The colors are really pretty. The yarn did vary in thickness, but not horribly.

Beautiful and sparkly
Used this to make a pocket shall for a friend. It's light weight but beautiful and sparkly!!!! The colour is fab and she absolutely loved it. It is delicate yarn and will pull if it catches on something. It was ok to work with but important to keep tension on it.

Ich bin nicht so zufrieden mit dieser Wolle.Sie enthält Verknotungen und der Faden ist teilweise nicht gedreht und dadurch filzig.
