Pearl Mantels Sarah Fireplace Mantel Shelf MDF, 60", White Paint

I wanted to love this mantel, I really did. We hung it at the end of September 2018 and it is now the end of November 2018 and the entire front and side are cracking with white paint showing through the black paint. I contacted the seller and was given the old it's been over 30 days, you are out of luck, routine. I would expect a $200 mantel to last longer than 2 months.Also, the "pearl" inlay that is supposed to confirm authenticity is a horrible eyesore on the side of the mantel. A) It's not even close to being a real pearl, it's unsightly white plastic and B) The white plastic stands out against the black color of the mantel. Love this mantel shelf!! Husband was really happy that it was mount and done. No cutting, no painting, just need a drill, masonry screws and a level. Boom! For years I just had a brick fireplace and was patiently waiting for hubby to “carpenter up” and build a mantel. Then one day he says, “hey, why don’t you order a mantel shelf?” And I was like, “What?! You can do that?” Then found this beauty for an exceptionally reasonable price and I am kicking myself for not looking ages ago!The finish is a semi gloss white, not too shiny and not flat. Easy to clean dust off down the road. Instant impact and looks amazing.The shelf arrived in a box that was well packaged to protect the contents. First one I ordered was 60” and it was too short, so I boxed it back up and exchanged it for the 72” which was perfect.I did feel like it needed something more on my brick fireplace since it is a deeper shelf, so I added some lightweight foam corbels (also on amazon: Ekena Millwork BKT07X05X05ST https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0094LMQ2Q) and that gave it a more balanced and finished feeling. I had looked to see if the manufacturer offered corbels for this shelf, but surprisingly, they do not. That would have been helpful to be sure the white finished matched. Maybe they will add that option (hint hint)I don’t particularly like the little “pearl insert” that the company touts as a marker that this is a genuine pearl brand mantel. To anyone approaching from the right, it looks like the shelf has damage. If it were a wood shelf instead of white, the insert might be cool, but on the white...not so much. Personally I could do without it, but it is pretty minor for how stoked I am on the shelf as a whole.

Although this mantle is beautiful it's extremely difficult to hang on fireplace wall that does not have studs. Most brick fireplaces don't have studs. The first one the contractor hung looked beautiful with some light art pieces placed on mantle. Serval hours later it fell off and crashed on the hearth, things smashed and the mantle was deeply gouged. The contractor asked me to order a new one and he insisted this one would stay up. He redesigned the miter hanging board by doubling it, and used eight masonry screw instead of four, industrial strength glues for the screws and the miter boards, anyway it's up again. For now I have pillows on the hearth just in case, it is beautiful but make sure about hanging it, the instructions that come with it are inadequate .

This is our second Pearl Mantel. We love their products. It did come with some cracked paint and scuff mark on the edge.I have to paint it which defeats the purpose of having it come finished but... it’s still pretty.

No doubt, I was skeptical after reading several negative reviews for Pearl Mantels' products. However, I decided to take a chance and I'm very happy I did. Pearl Mantels Sarah Mantel Shelf (60-inch, white) looks flawless--beautiful, glossy paint job covering solid, straight boards with a nice, simple design. The 9" shelf depth allows my Blu-ray player to sit securely, and there's room for decorative pieces as well--a few candles and/or picture frames. Also, I have peace of mind about the shelf acting as a heat shield for my TV that's hung above the fireplace. This mantel is a very handsome accent piece to my living room.Installation was quick and easy! I used four 3" drywall screws to fasten the hanger board into wall studs and then slipped the mantel onto the hanger board and gave a few fist thuds on top of the mantel on the edges and center to ensure it was secure. Lastly, I inserted a screw into the wall just above the mantel, in the center, just in case it gets bumped underneath, which could potentially lift the mantel off the hanger board. For only $135, this was an excellent investment. Absolutely zero complaints from this Pearl Mantels customer!

Easy install...beautiful mantel. We ordered the 72 inch one so that it would extend past tv edge.Install was a breeze. It comes with hanging board that mantel sits upon. Since we were hanging it above the fireplace, we used lag bolts to anchor into brick. The mantel itself sits on the board and can be adjusted as it is shelf like. I ordered the corbels as another reviewer posted. (Ekena millwork ....through Amazon...I actually glued the corbels to the brick...not to the mantel. They are decorative only...)The entire installation was about 30 minutes...(Minus the husband prodding time😄)It has a smooth finish and is light weight. This is not a paintable or stainable finish. I knew that when I purchased. The paint is smooth and does not have texture of woodgrain...very clean and neat.Totally happy with my purchase and selection.

Nice mantle but didn’t work out for me. Make sure you love this product because if you need to return it, they make you pay shipping. $50-100 shopping for $150 product. No thanks. Stuck with an unusable mantle. 👎🏼

Absolutely amazing! It’s really pretty and it’s worth it. It’s a thick rich heavy wood and makes your living room more modern.
