Stanley Garden BDS7236 FATMAX Ultimate Garden Knife

The original offset-handled hori-hori found online us just under 70 dollars. Having seen that in action, especially how the design bring more leverage in rooting-out stubborn weeds, etc.,, I was curious as to how this much cheaper version would fare. Have no qualms - this product is excellently made and of good materials. The serrated blade side is viciously sharp for cutting underground roots. The blade is thick and stout with zero flex or give. Great value.

Used this for metal detecting purposes. It is very sturdy, feels good in the hand, and cuts a clean plug out of the ground (even through roots) with the serrated edge. I’m sure it would do a great job with just about any task a garden would throw at it. Not the best actual digging tool, but I don’t think that’s the intended purpose anyway. It held up to a lot of abuse over the last six months and looks to be ready for many more years of service. The ONLY issue is the holster/sheath/carrying pouch started falling apart almost immediately. I had to break out the duct tape after about a week of use, granted that while metal detecting it gets removed and replaced dozens of times in an outing. If the sheath was better constructed I wouldn’t hesitate to give this the full five stars.

I used it to cut out a 2 x 4 area of thick St Augustine grass in order to put down paving stones. It worked well. The handle did not wobble. The blade cut the grass well. Even if it only lasts a few more times, it is worth its price.

This is a great tool for planting. I love the cutting edge for roots that are buried. So easy to use and strong enough to do a lot of the transplanting and dividing large plants like hostas or lillies.

This was a great digger that you used to be able to get at Ace hardware and the like for about $20 with a lifetime Guarantee. Now this is about the only place you can reliably find them but they raise the price to over what they were sold at in the brick and mortar then put them on and off sale randomly. If you can get one for under $20 like I did, it is a good digger for metal detecting with a warranty from Stanley.

Used this for backyard digging and looking for gold came in really handy sturdy handle and sharp blade also other side with serrated edge to cut roots and dig weeds and unknown plants no luck finding gold...

Looked real nice heavy duty in the listing but when I got it the blade was made of some sort of pot metal and felt like it would break east. Not a thick solid stainless steel blade.
