The herb in this product Tripterygium Wilfordii,, also called Lei Gong Teng (Thunder God Vine or "three-wing nut"), has been used in Chinese medicine for treatment of fever, edema, and carbuncles for centuries. Tripterygium has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activity. Tripterygium contains triptolide and tripdiolide and numerous other compounds.Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms may be eased. Effective for : treating rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus erythematosus, Leiomyomas (uterine fibroids), Pancreatic cancer. A drug extracted from a plant known as “thunder god vine,” or lei gong teng, killed pancreatic tumors in mice who showed no signs of tumors after 40 days or after discontinuing the treatment, according to researchers at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center.Polycystic kidney disease. This Chinese herb may be more effective than the anti-inflammatory drug sulfasalazine. Dr. Raphaela Goldbach-Mansky, from the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland says that physicians often prescribe sulfasalazine or other anti-inflammatory drugs for the initial treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. However, many patients discontinue the drugs due to lack of improvement or side effects. This herbal remedy, also known as "lei gong teng" has shown promise in treating other "autoimmune" disorders and inflammatory conditions.I n the current study and so it may be an alternative or added therapy with conventional drugs like methotrexate and or sulfasalazine, or Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquinel)., Dr. Raphaela Goldbach-Mansky randomly assigned 121 patients with rheumatoid arthritis to take either Tripterygium wilfordii three times daily or sulfasalazine two times daily for 24 weeks. Among those who continued treatment for 24 weeks, improvement in joint symptoms was greater with the herbal remedy (67%) than with sulfasalazine (36%) and adverse effects were similar. Annals of Internal Medicine, 2009. I personally have used this product and can report that there is immediate relief of joint aches and pains within 48 hours. The relief is lasting, unlike Tylenol or ibuprofen. It has a strong anti-inflammatory effect and appears to lower the cytokines that are overactive in hyper-immune (like allergies) or autoimmune (like lupus or rheumatoid , or plaque psoriasis, etc.). I have also seen it work well in patients experiencing symptoms from immune reconstitution drug therapy like those patients experiencing aches and pains from HIV drugs. In this case, the drugs are overstimulating the immune system, and the Tripterygium Wilfordii, (Thunder God Vine Root) acts to smooth-out the immune stimulus slightly so that a patient can still benefit from the HIV drugs to suppress the pain that comes from an overactive immune system. As a practicing herbalist, I highly recommend this product. It has a narrow therapeutic window, which means that you should take care and not use more than recommended. It is safe and effective used as directed. The cost is affordable if you consider that you do not need to take much to be effective. One dose per day is all that is needed. And if you find that you need a higher dose, look for the extracts that say (20:1) which means that it is concentrated. Great Product!

My wife takes these 3x a day. She has Ankylosing Spondylitis. It doesn't cure her symptoms in the least, but helps take the edge off and seems to prevent the worst days. We have not noticed any detrimental side effects with the possible exception of when she misses a dose, it leads to a really bad day.

Helpful for RA symptoms.Suppressed my immune system.Elevated my liver enzymes.Switched to chi shao, another Chinese herb, with 400 years' longer history of use for RA (1200 years, rather than 800) Much better.The tripterygium was good, but not best for me.The chi shao (red peony extract) is much more supportive overall and less harsh for me. Studies and my experience both demonstrate that the tripterygium suppresses the immune system (helpful for symptoms), but can cause liver damage. They both also show that the Chi Shao functions as a DMARD.

I had tried another brand of Thunder God that did not work at all, so I did not have much hope for this product. This product stopped estrogen dominance symptoms immediately. In the past I had combined progesterone, DIM, and other products without much success. This product is extremely potent.I recommended this product to a person with gynomastia also due to estrogen dominance and this product has been extremely effective and beneficial.If you have any issues with estrogen dominance you should check your MTHFR gene and your thyroid.

Administered indicated labeled dosage without any other supplements or prescription medication being present and experienced significant reduction in joint pain / swelling. An overall cooling sense set in. After the 3rd indicated dosage, however, very pronounced painful pin & needle sensations were introduced in the feet, hands and eyes, perhaps indicative of toxic neuropathy. Administration was immediately discontinued. It took 4 full days for the side effects to subside. As generally recognized by various NCBI publications, parts of T. Wifordii are lethaly toxic to dogs and likely neurotoxic to people. Threw the bottle away and decided to share my experience.

After having taken this product for a little over a month, it seems to have helped with the symptoms of my autoimmune disorder.
