Not easy to find moss seed so I wasn't sure what to expect. Directly sowed the seeds outdoors, zone 4, June 10. It's been just 7 days so no growth yet. Another review had warned me of the small volume of tiny seed (see pics). I scattered the seeds thinly and have kept moist as directed. Will post more pics as seeds begin to sprout. Gave 3 stars just out of the excitement of finding the product.UPDATE: 11/13/2017. Did not grow at all. I watered daily, it is shade all day. Maybe spring something will sprout.

Prepare trays of peat pots Moistened and opened. . (My seed pack produced 97 pods in 7 days) 1.carefully empty entire pkg into a little WHITE bowl. 2. Use toothpick to make smear on “a Petri dish”....... dip the tip of the dry toothpick into the seeds. Touch the tip in a light circle onto the moist jiffy pods. 3 Cover and set on counter. Slight condensation is ok. Open daily for air circulation. Room temp ~68-70. Good luck!

Just be prepared this stuff grows very slowly. I planted a 2ft x 3 foot space about 2 months ago and while most of the seeds did sprout it still has not grown to cover even 1/5th of the space.

I did not like. It came in a package about the size of a quarter and that was folded over. The seeds were nearly invisible. The half-folded quarter bag was maybe 1/10 full. I seriously doubt it had 5000 seeds.

I did not know what to expect but the quantity was very small. Maybe 1/2 a teaspoon of seeds. So out of that pack, I have two small patches of Irish moss starting. I was hoping for more, the number of seeds used to describe this could be deceiving to someone who is not familiar with this particular plant.

I have grown irish moss before, so I know all the techniques: peat, spray with a mister, dont sow directly, etc.5000 seeds and not a single show of life after 4 weeks and prime real estate in the greenhouse! So bummed. Ended up ordering 50 plugs from a nursery. So disappointed.

I see so many negative reviews of people just trying to plant directly outdoors. Plant in starter seed flats and grow indoors for about 2-3 weeks. Make sure the plants are sustainable prior to transplanting. Just spreading seeds outside may not work/ follow directions and you will get results.

In western Washington, we have a lot of rain which tends to wash away soil from beneath lawns, while dense, surrounding forests result in much shade and in moss replacing the grass. I had replaced the lawn five times in seven years and decided to join nature instead of fighting it by planting what thrived here... moss. I was disapointed with the small packet of seed which contained closer to 500 seed verses the 5,000 advertised, but the seed germinated in 3 days in pod trays and I was able to transplant them within one week. I purchased more packets and now have a Zen rock and moss garden in place of my annoying, lame lawn and the moss is spreading rapidly to create a beautiful, thick groundcover. Perfect for locations with moisture and shade and its nice on the eyes and feet.
