More than just a game whistle
I bought this to train some Jack-A-Bee puppies I have. Why?? Because I am mute due to my vocal cords being removed as the result of cancer. (Can't blow a whistle, even a match or candle out since I no longer breath through my nose or mouth) Prior to that it was very easy for me to train dogs, now I can and do use a series of hand claps for commands but if the dogs are a long distance away they can't hear that soooooo. This thing is loud, has one high pitched tone (pretty loud) , one whistle like chatter tone, and one LOUD High Pitched tone. Using those I can set a series of commands for Come, Stay, sit, down, etc. I explained the above just in case there is someone else that could use it that way. Now the actual whistle review: It comes with no instructions so here goes. The 9 volt battery comes sealed in a very clear plastic film that I at first missed, So it didn't work until that was removed. Haaa The battery door has a slide switch marked with an arrow for locking, pull it down to unlock the door, then lift the end the switch is on first, then slide it up and forward to release the bottom door tangs. It then comes off. Inside the battery contact points are marked + and -, make sure the battery terminals match those when inserting, and insert the bottom of the battery in the compartment first then the top. Then the bottom door tabs are inserted first, top then can be dropped flush and the door lock switch pushed up into the locking position. The on off and tone select switch is located on the side. All the way to the front is off, one click down loud solid tone, second click is the chatter or whistle sound third click down one LOUD Solid tone. I don't know how long it will last but the price and out of the box performance has impressed me enough to order a backup. Also at 70 years old it's fun learning a new skill. Haaa Hope this review helps someone.ADDENDUM: This thing is loud enough my dogs hear it 1/4 mile away (in the country) and respond,(working very well). The battery is holding up well . I have left the switch on three times for 24 hours and it's still good. ((Probably does draw a little power when left on though, so wouldn't do that). Only negative is the battery door switch has dropped down which will allow the door to come off. So I closed the switch and put a piece of Scotch Tape over it and no more problem. It works well enough that I ordered another one in case this one quits, and they no longer make them.

bought for covid, might never go back to regular whistles
prior to covid, I used Fox 40's pearl whistle and the classic before that. my soccer league ruled that referees needed to wear masks at all times, but no one (including myself) had even heard of an electronic whistle before so we had no clue how to proceed with the season. I did some googling and bought this one (my league bought a few for all the refs to use but they're cheap quiet garbage) and holy cow. there are 3 settings, 1 is kind of a basic loud whistle sound, 2 is higher pitched and shrill and I hate it, but 3 is loud and intense and that's the one I used all last year. it takes a 9V battery but mine didn't die after an entire season so it lasts a while. I'm rating 1 star for the "volume control" category because there is no volume control - it blasts away no matter how hard or soft you press the button but overall this is a 5 star product. Fox 40 ALWAYS makes great quality gear and this is no exception.

Effective substitute for Fox 40 Mouth Operated Whistle
Bought 3 of these to use for outdoor umpiring for the family. Only choice when you need to wear a mask while umpiring this summer.Pros - Works fine and feels good in the hand. Maybe a bit bulky if one has smaller hands. Wrist wrap holder is a bonus. So far have done about 40 games and no issues with 2 of the whistles. Recommended over some other brands that partners have been using.Con - still working on how to vary the whistle for whistle talk. Had one game that the whistle worked fine. The players we not so good reacting to the whistle. And well - I noted 2 whistles going string. Third dies after about 3-4 games. Just quit.Other point - Sound is very directional, that is both good and bad depending on situation.Pro for the seller - returned the one that failed and got money back after some correspondence with them. Unfortunately no more available so went to the manufactured and got replacement there for about same price. Give the customer service 5 stars

probably the best one on the market overall for battery life and loud sound with spalding coming in a close 2nd.
Pros: nice & loud, runs on a 9volt battery which seems to last much longer than other models which run on AAA batteries.Cons: A bit bigger in size than the Spalding whistle and other electronic whistles. The metal contacts get pushed down after a couple battery changes to the point where you have to bend them back to make contact with the battery. The button also is flimsy, and not built to last either, but since no other whistles on the market are made any better, this is as good as it gets folks. What other folks have said about the materials is true. It could be made to last longer, but all other electronic whistles are made the same way this one is, cheaply. So, don't drop it. The spalding whistle (uses 2 AAA batteries) has some advantages over this whistle in that the battery contacts are those springs that tend to last longer than the contacts made to use with the 9 volt battery on the fox 40.

Very Convenient
Do not blow this near anyones ear as it is extremely loud and sensitive to the ear. Its very convenient than the traditional whistle. Be careful as it may drop. The string was the only faulty part on it as it was very loose and broke off. Whistle still works and I would still purchase it.

Not built to last. Stick to the classic Fox40
Worked for 1 practice. Have been a high school coach for 20+ years. Used the traditional Fox40 for all those years. Another coach had this toy & thought I would give it a try. Button malfunctioning after the first day of use. Sometimes not making any sound, sometimes stuck on.Loved the design, 3 options for sounds, and ability to coach while blowing whistle for other players. Really disappointed with the quality. Went back to using the classic pealess Fox40 classic that has been fail proof for 2 decades
