BOLD WITH GREAT TASTE
This coffee is great. It's a strong coffee so you don't need much to make it. Example: for 5 cups just use maybe 2-1/2 TBS of coffee. It has a great flavor. Will definitely buy it again.

dark roast= strong bold cup with hint to chicory; lends body w/o bitterness
Good flavor and strength. I have the "Dark roast" option. I like my coffee dark, black, unsweetened. This has a well established undertone of chicory. Not strong, but it is there in the background. Probably best for those not looking for strong chicory yet want a bold cup of coffee with added baody (sans bitterness).I make this in a French press, and I need to use less that what I normally do with my coffee. Even then it is sometimes too strong. I dont often do creamer, but there are times that I use it to make this taste smoother--usually because I still made it too strong. I mean, I love my coffee ultra bold and strong, but sometimes too much coffee grounds to water ratio just makes it taste harsh. Need a balance. So overall I like it. Just a little tricky for me to get right. When I do, it makes a strong cup of dark coffee, with hint of nutty chicory. I like that the chicory gives the coffee body yet doesnt impart an tang or bitterness. For the price it is worth the try.

This is the real thing
I've been a fan of chicory coffee for decades but it was only recently that I started buying the stuff for use at home. I've tried all the brands that are readily available, but French Market City Roast comes the closest to the flavor of that delicious "black liquid gold" that I remember from my days in New Orleans. Unlike Community New Orleans Blend, which is rather bland and wimpy by comparison; or Café De Monde, which can be downright harsh and bitter; this coffee is much more refined. Even though you can use only about half the amount that is required to brew most conventional coffee, if you really like rich, strong coffee it's practically impossible to make a pot of this stuff too strong; it just gets richer, but without any bitterness. If you're looking for the genuine article, this is the one.Update 08/20/2014I still love this coffee, but the way the manufacturers keep raising the price of it is disgusting. The price has risen precipitously (more than 60%) in just the last few months, and now they've also started reducing the quantity of coffee in the cans from 16 to 12 ounces, which they still sell AT THE SAME INFLATED PRICE! I don't mind paying considerably more for a better product, but this is ridiculous. There seems to be no limit to the greed of the people peddling this product (present company, Amazon.com, excluded). I'm just about to give up on this coffee on principle alone, and only buy local and honest for a change.Update 09/30/2014Since my last update I've discovered that the ripoff mentioned above is more pervasive than I realized, and it's certainly not peculiar to the French Market brand. It seems that practically ALL coffee is now sold in lesser amounts at the same or higher price; 12 oz. units of coffee have replaced the previous 16 oz. units almost everywhere. This is great coffee, so since it's no more expensive than any other premium coffee I'll be sticking with it.By the way, the best deal is to buy it online directly from Reilly Foods. And if you buy 6 bags or more you'll get a nice discount, so even with the shipping charge included it's still a much better deal.
