Looking forward to reading the books. A new perspective on English

I came across these books accidentally and it was obvious that I had to buy them. I have just opened the Etymologicon so far and after ten minutes have learned so much already and laughed a great deal. The erudition of the author is obvious but worn lightly as his explanations of the history of words fizz along with cheeky humour. I have, too, been deeply moved by the gentlest, most heartfelt tribute to a friend that I have read.Anyone with an interest in the English language should buy these books.

I have learnt more about English grammar by reading Elements of Eloquence than I ever learnt at school or university and I have had fun reading this "text" book too. I recommend to anyone. I have been too engrossed with the first book to read the other two, but, a quick glance through indicates that they too will be enjoyable.

Fascinating, bought the set for my son, who is also a member of the grammar police. It is surprising how the meanings of words and phrases have changed through time. I already had the set on kindle so knew my son would love it. He soon found one problem - they proved so intriguing that his son and daughter kept "borrowing" them to read and he would have to get whichever he wanted to read at the time back.Brilliant, informative, readable books - I can only recommend them.

I bought this set as a gift, primarily for The Elements of Eloquence - the most entertaining book on RHETORIC available.
