Fortaleza Reposado Tequila, 70 cl

I first saw this tequila on a documentary, and thought if I'm going to get a bottle of tequila, it's going to be a good one. So I did a bit more research, this company makes it in the traditional way, in brick ovens, additive free etc, they actually make their own bottles and hand made stoppers. I think many of us, have had tequila at some point usually a cheap one from the supermarket. Well trust me, this is a different beast, it's beautiful, it doesn't taste artificial, I only have this for drinking neat, too good to mix, but you can if you want. A very fine product, that is loved by many.

This is fantastic reposado! On the nose you get cooked Agave, vanilla, a hint of butter, grassy notes and very little alcohol (even before you let it breathe). On the mouth you can taste plenty agave, followed by butter, caramel, vanilla and a hint of oak. The texture is neither dry nor oily, just a nice balance of both. The finish has a nice peppery burn. This is good sipping tequila. If you haven't tried it yet, you will not be disappointed.

If you're the kind of person who thinks tequila is only for shots, with salt and lime, then you probably haven't tried good tequila. These traditionally made spirits - oven kilned, stone ground and copper stilled - are few and far between and shine above anything else. Get yourself a good glass, pour it out at room temperature and let it breath for 5 mins. Then sip. It's warm, peppery and smooth. Enjoy it, savour it. Realise that you're probably drinking one of the best reposado tequilas on the planet. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny. I'm sure it makes a wonderful cocktail but that would be a waste. No mixer, no ice. Drink it properly.

After much investigation I bought this. Even the bottle is perfect. Not too strong so drink it neat. Great history and perfect Tequila. Worth every penny. Love it - one of the best!

The Fortaleza Reposado is absolutely the BEST tequila after Clase Azul. For sipping... too good to use in a mixed drink.
