it's not a method but a collection of very beautifle song simple to read also for who are not able to read the pentagram.it's also simple transpose those songs on the concertina because there's a useful fingers positioning scheme.

Arg...I be learning the shanty's in no time. Has improved moral more than the floggings.

Review for "Pirate Songs for Concertina".Excellent selection of music. The fingering system -itself- isn't as clear as it could be. But if you learn a song or two, you'll start to get the hang of it.So not too terrible, right?However, comparing the sheet music to the fingering system -notation-, for those who can spot it, there's something definitely "off". The sheet music often indicates single notes being played at any given moment. BUT the concertina fingerings often indicate playing chords, chorded runs, drones, and using other advanced techniques.One thing about the fingered chords that definitely stands out though (if you've ever held a concertina and played around with it a little, particularly trying to have 3 or 4 notes open at once), is that some of the chords and runs they try to have you play will have your squeeze box run out of air before the run is over, or you can't make a sound at all with how many buttons you have open and with too little force to make the notes sound.The wonkiness of the fingering system and notation, alone, makes this book almost unusable for a newbie, unless s/he has musical experience and can read sheet music.And while the author seems to have a number of books under his belt specific to the concertina, I'm suspicious of whether or not he's ever actually played one.Anyway, one final (albeit) nitpick. They went overboard with the whole Old English, small type, pirate font throughout the book. It's on every page, for every song. You spend extra time trying to read what would otherwise be perfectly readable in a more standard (size and type) font.If it weren't for the great selection of songs and that the sheet music is usable, I'd give it a 1 star rating. But, 3 stars because I'm semi-familiar with both sheet music and with how concertinas work.

Great book....the font selection could be better as it is hard to read accurately. This is important when trying to coordinate playing an instrument, singing, and reading music and text simultaneously. The sonng selection is varied and interesting.

Me an' me crew be lovin' this here collection o' songs an' shanties. They be soundin' grand on me little squeeze box - even when me first mate be strummin' on the uke-arr-lele. I give this book 5 nips o' rum.

Einfach super! Die Verfasser von diesem Buch haben sich echt Mühe gegeben. Die Schrift macht Nostalgische. Bei jedem Lied ist alles toll beschrieben zum spielen und mit singen.

I'll be honest, I bought this book thiking "well, worst case scenario, I wasted 20€". I din't expect much. Instead, I found a book with a lot of songs! All of them with sheet music and numbers to be used as "tabs" for quick learning, which is brilliant.The only complaint I have is that some of the songs do not sound right. I suppose, since these are traditional songs, maybe the author had a different version in mind.Still, this book taught me Spanish ladies, Roll boys roll, Roll the old chariot in a matter of minutes. Brilliant. And all written in Pirate English.

There are many songs which sound very simple, but overall a nice buy!
