Misleading Product photo info
Absolute joke, Buyer Beware. picture shows it comes with remote and it does not and they do not say it does not. It is very new looking condition. The adapter power in does not function so battery only. It wont record and it should. It will play you mini discs and I have many but will not record them. Computer transfer on windows only not Mac. after a couple of days the play back was intermittent. As I won the Amazon Card at work I Have not lost anything really so rather than send it back I scraped it so it could not be passed on to another person who would have same issues -

Poor Ergonomics
This is not a bad sounding player - it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a Mini Disc player at this price (though certainly no better). To be fair, before I start on the reasons why I gave this a low review, the good points:1) The LP2/LP4 and especially the USB capability, to allow you to rip tracks from your PC is very handy.2) It's very light (if a little flimsy feeling)3) The ability to use a rechargable AND normal batteries is a big plus and the rechargable battery life is goodHowever... the design, documentation and general attention to detail let this device down badly for me, as well as the on-line services of Sony themselves1) The documentation reads like the translated script to a bad Japanese B-movie. Verging on gibberish in places, rarely in good english, I would imagine anyone without a good knowledge of PC software could make a mess of using it2) The software (Open MG Jukebox) is one of the most ill-thought out, badly designed applications I have ever seen (and I'm a computer programmer, so I've seen a few). It's cluttered, hard to figure out what's going on half the time, overloaded with buttons and option the purpose of which is less than clear... oh yes, and the colour schemes are truly hideous. Still, it hasn't crashed on me (yet)3) I bought it primarily because my existing portable (a Creative Jukebox 6Gb MP3 player) was unsuitable for use while running etc (being hard disk based). Due to the length of the headphone cable from earpiece to remote control barely reaching the base of my ribcage, there is nowhere to attach it unless you wear a shirt or something with a breast pocket. You can't let it dangle, as the headphones won't stay in your ears even if you do manage to clip the remote on to something anyway. If you want to use this for running, you will need to buy new headphones!4) The belt clip sticks back out again at the base, which means it ends up rubbing into your skin if you attach it to your trousers/shorts waistband. How many people go running wearing a separate belt?5) Sony's web site and services are uttely dismal. As an example, I've tried to register my NetMD half a dozen times now and it consistently fails for one reason or another (and no, it's not my connection... other sites are no problem and I get the issues with Sony both at home and work). I also went browsing for accessories and navigating the site in general is hard work. Finding something you want (as opposed to something they want you to see) is way too much effort, I lost patience very quickly and would rather visit my local Sony store, it will be far easier.I've always considered the small details and service level of a company to be usually be a good reflection of the satisfaction you will get from a product. Creative were always extremely helpful and assisted in smoothing out most of any issues I have ever had with their products (and I have several), their web site is reasonably easy to follow and has rarely crashed on me, or led me through a long process only to tell me at the end that it's not working. I simply cannot say the same for this product or this company, it simply should not be this much hard work.In summary, it's NOT a bad player. But in terms of suiting the purpose for which I bought it, and the satisfaction I get from dealing with Sony's 'public face', I am very less than happy. Consider someone else if at all possible.

Sony MZ-N505 Blue MiniDisc Walkman - Review
Well I decided to purchase this mini-disc after alot of carefull consideration. The price was excellent, especially what the package was offering! An option not to be missed.Previosully I`ve been recording music from CD & PC to my old Sharp mini-disc via phono leads which connected to a 3.5 mini microphone jack which then plugged into the microphone socket to the mini-disc. Sound was okish but not perfect. With my new Sony mini-disc this procedure was obsolete. Downloading music is very fast and the compression is excellent.I`m particualy into rock music, and enjoy listening to the Rock Show (Raido 1) which is broardcasted from 12am to 2am. With working and getting up early Im too knackered to listen to it, so I set my mini-disc up to record the show, slap in a 74min mini disc set the recording compression to LP4 and Bob's your auntie. The funny thing was I set the mini-disc to record at 12am and woke up around 5am ish and the thing was still RECORDING!! Brilliant!!!!Sound quality is excellent the digital bass works very well. The optical in works a dream, espeically when you hook it upto a PS2 - OOhh the posibilities!!The only 2 downsides to the product is the the lack of highlighted screen on the mini-disc and the remote. Its a bit of a pain when using the mini-disc in low-level lighting or pitch black. Perhaps (via testing) you can attach another remote that features the highlighted 'glow' to achieve light? And secondly, the software. Its not the best user-friendly piece of software but I guess it does the job.Overall an excellent and must have purchase if you're into downloading music, copying etc. Its much more cost effective than an MP3 player. If you get one enjoy it!

An Absolute Steal
Sony have done it again! An absolute must for fans of Minidisc and newcomers alike. This player has a huge list of features, and it is very easy to use. The rechargeable AA-sized battery is very useful (and light) and the sound quality is superb. The benefits far outweigh the minor downsides, which include a small display screen and limited remote control. But for this price, I don't think you can buy better!

What an Encryption farce!
...Excellent Amazon Service, fully functional Minidisc recordable device with USB. So what is my problem? Neither Amazon nor Sony told me that any downloads I make to my walkman from my computer can ONLY be played by my walkman! So - I have purchased music CD, I copy it on my Computer, I copy it to my sony discman - so far so good. I then decide to take the minidisc and play it in my car minidisc stereo (also Sony) and voila - no bloody sound! First I knew about encryption was page 36 of a 38 page instruction manual! So - if you have other sony products and want to play a recorded disc - forget it. I guess if your walkman gets lost or stolen and you have hundreds or pre reorded discs - forget it. The biggest disappointment I have ever had with any electronic product.

nice
A good minidisk player which is easy to handle and easy to set up. The only slight let down is the screen and remote. while arent bad, the screen could be a bit bigger and it would be nice if the remote had a screen. However these can be over looked as this is a great player
