Nails it on the Head
I have 2 daughters and found this book while searching for a new story about sisters. The reviews were so good, and the pictures I could see so sweet that I ordered it. When it arrived I read it to myself and indeed my eyes did smart towards the end. But instead of thinking about my daughters I found myself thinking of myself and my 2 older sisters. I related perfectly to the conflicting feelings of the little sister, and to the conclusion in which love for her big sister won out, but she still kept her afternoon alone to herself, something that's hers alone. I adore the illustrations and feel the story is perfectly told for about 3-7 year olds - just enough repetition for new readers, too. I'm impressed with the way it addresses the topic of conflict between sisters, without making anyone the bad guy, or without being obnoxious or shallow. My daughters are still a little too young for this book but I expect it will become a classic in our family. My highest compliments to this author.

One of our childhood favorites
Just a touching simple tale of two sisters but to this day, 50 years later, but still makes me want chocolate chip cookies and lemonade. Fast delivery, seamless transaction, would buy from them again.

Cute tender story of sisterly love. "Ages 4-8"
My two daughters are similar to the characters in the book and loved it. They are adults now and still like the book.

Wonderful to read with big and little sisters.
I have four girls, ages 6, 5, 2, and almost 1. The older three *adore* this book. They pore over it, telling each other "you're the little sister, I'm the big sister!" or vice versa. It's a useful tool for helping children in either role of big or little sister feel empathy for the other. The story is simple and relatable for little ones, and really very touching.

So sweet! Explains the value of both sisters in this cherished bond.
This book is so sweet. I have two daughters - ages 2 and 4. I love that it portrays the importance of both the big sister and the little sister. I have always reminded my older daughter to set a good example for her little sister. However, after reading this book, I also remember to point out to my older daughter when her younger sister follows her example, and praise my older daughter for teaching her. I look forward to my little one being old enough to read this book, too!

Heartwarming!
I purchased this book on Amazon without reading it because I had a hunch that it was good. I bought it for my sister who is going through a difficult time (she's the big sister and I'm the little sister). I gave it to her on Christmas morning and she cried when I read it to her. It's just a wonderful message about how sisters can take care of one another. The big sister always took care of the little sister, but when the big sister needed to be taken care of, the little sister realized that she could be there for the big sister, too. I just love this story and highly recommend it to those big and little sisters out there!

Sweet and simple
I have 5 and 2.5 year old daughters. I got each of them a "Sister" book for chirstmas this year. They both LOVE their books. This book is sweet with a nice little reminder to big sisters who can be a little too helpful to younger siblings. It is old fashioned in its illustrations which makes it simple and sweet.

Just had to buy
My sister and I had this book as children. After a family bereavement, I just had to buy a copy to cheer her up.It's a lovely story about how young sisters learn to appreciate each other.

Beautiful
I remembered reading a very sweet, moving book about sisters when I was younger that really stayed with me, but couldn't recall the title or author. After a bit of internet searching, I realised it was this one and immediately ordered it. It is a beautiful, simple story about a bossy older sister and the slightly resentful younger sister. There are lovely details in both the gorgeous, soft focus illustrations and the writing (I particularly remembered the fact that the older sister would hold out a handkerchief and say 'Here, blow' if the younger sister started to cry) and the story is very touching: the younger sister, irritated by her sibling's constant watchfulness, decides to hide one day. However, when she hears her older sister crying, she is filled with remorse. There is never anyone, she realises, to offer the big sister a handkerchief. The ending is, of course, a happy one, but it has a sweet, haunting quality, much like Shirley Hughes' 'Dogger'. There are no parents in this book; it is a world in which two girls learn to look out for each other. Perfect for girls, especially those with sisters!

Wonderful gentle book with a heartening message for siblings
I had this when my sister and I were children, and I went looking for it for my daughters. I love this book and the message it gives that younger siblings can help older ones too, and that is OK. It's not just for girls, by the way - I'm a man (and older sibling.)

A Classic
I bought this classic children's story for a five year old who has just become a big sister. I first bought it forty years ago for my own daughter when she became a big sister. Even after all these years it is not really dated and I think it's perfect
