A new model that is not as good as the older versions of Kindle
I wavered between I don't like it and It's okay, but decided on I don't like it, because I don't!I only bought the Paperwhite because my first Kindle froze and the 'Helpdesk' was only able to offer the standard reset instructions, press Menu and do you want prices for refurbished models?? I was very happy with my old Kindle, but not so happy with this one. There are several problems with the Paperwhite in my opinion. Firstly, the unit is too small - I only have small hands, but find that the sides of the Kindle are very narrow and my fingers keep slipping off and hitting the screen, consequently I end up several pages away from where I want to be and have to move backward and forwards in the book which is extremely irritating. To avoid this, I have to balance the unit and can end up with cramp in my hand. Conversely, sometimes when I want to turn the page, the damn machine doesn't respond and I then end up pressing a little too long and get the dictionary appearing! The function keys were confusing to start with and aren't as user-friendly as my old unit which was very simple. When looking for books, the search feature can be slow to respond to the keyboard and I've found myself entering letters multiple times because the system doesn't respond to information being inputted and then having to delete everything (and again, it's slow to respond) and start again. I almost threw it at the wall last week because it was so slow and annoying. On two occasions it has done a spontaneous reboot. Last night, I was reading my book when it decided to reboot of its own accord, consequently when I was able to go back into my book I had to scroll through until I found where I was up to (and as I had been reading for about an hour, that was a lot of pages!).I've only had the unit a few weeks and have had to reboot a few times because it has frozen which doesn't bode well for the future. On the positives, I like the backlight feature which is handy and when I received it, all my old books were on the Cloud to be called down as required, which was a relief. So, whilst I am very positive about ebooks in general, the Paperwhite isn't the best Kindle in my opinion.

Not as good as the Kindle Keyboard, but still a great e-reader
I bought this kindle after my beloved Kindle Keyboard finally died on me. Initially I wasn't keen, but it's growing on me.+ The light up screen is very effective, and will be extremely useful for reading in bed or late night car journeys.+ It is light, and feels nice to hold - sturdy and tidy.+ Love the vocabulary builder feature, which I think is new.+ 3g works well, although I do not like that it automatically changes to wifi when available, without asking. I think you should be able to say whether you want to use the 3g, for example where it is faster than the wifi.+ Generally gets the job done (providing a pleasant and undistracting reading experience) with very little fuss.- No page turning buttons. You have to tap on the right hand side of the page to turn. However, I am left handed so this actually turns the simple act of turning the page into a bit of an inconvenience. With the Kindle Keyboard, they had page turning buttons on both the left and right but the Paperwhite seems set up for right-handers only.- No keyboard. It has a touch screen keyboard, obviously, but it's rather unresponsive and I find myself repeatedly backtracking when typing because the keyboard regularly fails to pick up a letter touch.I considered spending the money for a Amazon leather kindle case, but in the end I got one elsewhere for £7. It fits perfectly, comes in more colours and automatically turns the kindle on and off when I open or close it. Can't understand why the Amazon ones are so expensive!

Very pleased with my replacement Kindle Paperwhite
I am really pleased with my upgraded Kindle Paperwhite. The backlit screen is wonderful for reading outside when light conditions are absent and, I guess, good for those wanting to read in bed without disturbing their partner. Of course, in good light the Paperwhite, as with older versions, is wonderfully glare-free without backlighting. The touch screen is new to me (I've been using a Kindle since they first came out) and, for the most part I find it is an improvement, especially when moving between publications or, in the case of periodicals, between sections and articles. However, I am still finding page-turning a little haphazard, especially when wanting to move backwards as well as forwards. Often, in spite of touching or swiping from left-to-right, I find I have moved on a page instead of back. It is possible that this will get better as I improve my technique. Another improvement is the appearance on the Home page of a link to the Cloud. This provides a helpfully clear delineation between those files on the Device and those in the Cloud which provides a welcome feeling of control and security. I also like that once can see, via a sub menu at the bottom of the page (when touched) an assessment of how much (in percentage and time) is remaining to be read and this is applied to newspaper and magazine articles as well as books. So, all in all, very positive except for the touch screen page turning.
