Turn PC into a Blu-Ray Player
I bought this to play Blu-ray movies since my PC/laptop doesn’t have an optical drive. After some additional software setup, I was able to successfully play my movies. The drive also includes SD/TF card slots with transfer speeds around 30MB/s, and a USB hub with two Type-C ports for extra connectivity. Note that the Type-C ports are actually USB 2.0, with speeds around 45MB/s. The built-in USB A and C cables are convenient, though I’ll be keeping an eye on their long-term durability.

A great sold drive.
**Product:** 8 in 1 External Blu Ray Drive, USB 3.0 and Type-C Blu Ray Burner**Price:** $75.99**Brand:** Wbacon**My Take:**The Wbacon 8-in-1 External Blu-ray Drive is a versatile tool that not only reads and writes CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays but also functions as a USB hub with multiple ports and card slots. It’s a solid option for anyone looking to back up or burn discs, particularly in a world where many laptops no longer come with built-in drives.**Pros:**- **Multi-Functionality:** The drive isn’t just for reading and burning discs; it also serves as a USB hub, which is a nice bonus for those needing additional ports.- **Wide Compatibility:** It works with a broad range of operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and even older Linux distributions. I’ve tested it on a 2017 iMac running macOS and Windows 98, and it worked well after installing the necessary drivers for Blu-ray on older Windows versions.- **Portable Design:** The slim, lightweight design and included padded case make it easy to carry around, perfect for both home use and travel.- **Ease of Use:** The slot-loading mechanism is a great feature, as it feels more durable than traditional tray-loading drives. It’s truly plug-and-play for most systems, with no additional drivers needed for basic functionality.**Cons:**- **Blu-ray Burning:** While it supports Blu-ray burning, I haven’t tested this feature extensively due to the high cost of blank Blu-ray discs. The prices for high-capacity discs are quite steep, so I’d only recommend purchasing them if you have a specific need.- **Access to Ports:** The SD and MicroSD card slots are located on the back of the drive, making them slightly inconvenient to access, especially if you need to reposition the drive to use them.**Overall:**This external Blu-ray drive is a solid choice for those who need to burn data, back up media, or simply want a reliable disc reader. The additional USB hub functionality adds extra value, making it a great tool for both desktop and portable use. It’s an excellent investment for those who, like me, need to back up their physical media to a NAS for long-term storage. Given its features and performance, I highly recommend it for anyone in need of a versatile external drive.

Requires a Software Download, Too Much Effort
The Wbacon 8 in 1 External Blu-Ray Drive seems like a really cool item to have for any electronic aficionado. I was really looking forward to receiving this portable external Blu-Ray Drive. Out of the box, you receive the unit, which has both a USB port and a c-port attached, a nice carrying case, with a sturdy double zipper, and a user manual. The unit has all the ports described in the picture and can burn DVDs. However, to operate it requires a software download, and while the software is compatible with most operating systems, there are multiple steps to the download, and as I am somewhat cautious about what software I download, I used a second computer, and it took too long and each time the software wouldn’t activate. And the software replaces the search provider. However, the unit itself is exactly as pictured. I like the idea of the Wbacon external Blu-Ray drive, but unfortunately it took too much effort to activate the software.

Had to return the first one as it didn't pull in the DVD, however the second one worked great! Love it!

For the Macs
My partner has a Mac and no DVD player, so I got this so we could watch some of the DVDs and Blue Rays I have laying around. This works pretty good! I would recommend making sure this is on a level surface when you use it so the disc doesn't have a chance to skip. I have not used the burning feature at all, because I haven't needed to burn a disc since 2005. However, I am glad to have the option should I need it I guess?
