Good,but no legends?
Im writing this review in response to what a reviewer said about when you use hornswaggle in the match and it freezes? well my copy works perfectly fine. My only gripe is where is Stone Cold Steve Austin?,The rock?,Hulk Hogan? and numerous other legends. Instead we get treated to such unlockable delights as Snitsky,Boogyman,Layla, some masked man and a soldier called Tony!!! Who wants to play with those?!!Positively though, there is more arenas and better matches, such as the inferno and gauntlet match. Graphics are top draw for a ps2 machine and the story lines are good and dont take forever to complete.Overall for a ps2 game, its very good.

THIS GAME SUCKS
I've got pretty much every smackdown game since the ps1, but I have to say that this game sucks. There is no season mode, you just fight for belts NO story. The co-op "season" is Ray and Batishta for the tag belts, no choice of characters. Just like 2008 you can no longer select your target manually. The graphics are the same (ps2). If you go ringside you the camera angle is horrible and you can barely see the action (1 vs 1). The commentary is identical to 2008 I don't know how many times i've heard the "gimmick infringement ... Oh my God they killed..." in both 2008 and 2009.That being said the create a finisher is OK, not great but OK. You can only create front finishers. Though this feature along with the new inferno match (normal match with fire effect, nothing great) don't make this a good buy. Stick to 2008, or better yet get Here Comes the Pain the best so far bar the graphics.

Disappointment
Sadly a very weak game. The Xbox 360 version is more fun in some ways, despite the differences being limited. The roster is weak, the creation suite barely different from previous iterations, and the 'season mode' is very poor indeed.Better off buying 2008 if you just have a PS2

Fun to play... but overall quite dissappointing
Where to begin with this game. SvR 2009 should be so much better that what it is, it contains all the right ingredients- easy controls, great graphics and the ever enjoyable CAWs and CAE. There is also a great range of venues and the Inferno match makes a nice entrance, but thats where the fun stops. The problems I have with this game is that gone are the enjoyable season modes where you can build up your career over the course a few seasons and you have interesting stories lines with different wrestlers (although in my opinion the last time I enjoyed the season modes were in Smackdown Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes The Pain).I felt that the road to Wrestlemainia stories were too short and once completed it felt like an anticlimax. Within the road to Wrestlemania you can unlock certain wrestlers but gone are such legends as Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold, The Rock to be replaced by bloody Rick Flair, The Boogeyman Man, Some Random Masked Man and some Random Army Bloke Called Tony, I don't want to play as these, give me the legends back.Even though the controls are simpler buy using L1 then directions for strong or normal grapple then direction again to execute the moves, I feel that the range of moves are quite limited and become quite repetitive. THQ could of used the simple moves to their advantage and have more variety of moves as there are three other shoulder buttons. The career mode is fun to an extent of collecting belts, but it does get awfully repetitive as you chose a belt path, you then get a choice of four wrestlers to face and you beat them at the end your match is awarded 1-5 stars (based on Excitement, Technicality and End Result), once you have accumulated 15 Stars you can then challenge for the No1 contender spot which is usually a special match type once you win this you then challenge for the championship belt and then you start the whole process again for the next belt- boring! The neat thing about career mode is that as you wrestle you pick up experience points so you wrestler becomes better over time, but the annoying thing is that once your wrestler hits the 70 overall rating your stats increase at a ridiculously slow rate afterwards. This isn't a big deal to start with as even on a hard setting most of the matches are quite easy to win. However, once you reach the World Heavy Weight and WWE championship paths the difficulty increases by two or three notches and when your stuck on about 75 overall, the matches are bloody hard to win.My other gripe with Career mode is the lack of matches to chose from as you have a choice of- Manager, Cage, Hell in a Cell, ECW Extreme Rules, Ladder, Table and TCL, in the Singles match you can edit the match to make it a no DQ match. It would be of a nice touch if you could have the inferno match in career mode (as its in exhibition mode), also why is there no elimination chamber, I quite, First Blood, Casket, Buried Alive Stretcher Matches? It would of been nice if there were also inclusion of the Battle Royal and Fatal Four way and handi cap matches. I must say that the most disappointing of all though is that you can challenge for the Hardcore belt, but there is no hardcore anywhere falls match, the only match which comes close to this is the ECW one. Then once you win all the belts you get a nice pat on the back and told to keep defending them, however once you lose a belt you have to win the no1 contenders match in order to challenge for it again (theres no rematch clause here)So as you can see the negatives out weigh the positives, I would save your money and go for SvR 2011 as this seems like a much better buy.
