Rod McKuen's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 by Rod Mckuen (1996-10-20)

As ever, Rod sings with passion and its as though you are with him listening just you and him to all he has to say. If you are a fan of Rod this is a must, if you want to discover what was so unique about the late Rod McKuen then buy this and sit back glass of wine and candles burning and let yourself drift with all he has to sing.

I have long enjoyed the music of Rod McKuen and this to me has the best selection of his songs. The whole cd is a joy to listen to.

Rod McKuen is probably far too simplistic for most of today's youth to enjoy and this collection will doubtless not appeal to the mainstream for several reasons including its cost, but for those real and older fans like myself for whom Rod was a mainstay of our music choices, this album is like a gentle breeze of fresh air, bringing with it so many memories from the past, some happy and some sad, of life and listening back in the 1960s and 70s.Anyone who has read anything about Rod's life will know that he had a really difficult childhood, but far from it having turned him into an embittered and angry person it brought his gentle nature to the fore. His sensitivity shines through all of his work, written and sung, and yes, his poetry might be considered to be somewhat shmaltzy but even if that isn't to your taste, his songs and singing are superb.It is just a delight to listen to his gravelly crooning and the numbers featured on this album still to speak to my heart after all these years, especially Mr Kelly and As I Love My Own, although the entire album is a delight.For a relaxing and blood pressure reducing trip down memory lane I can't recommend it highly enough.
