Diamond for the discerning audience!
The HD380 is a diamond for the discerning audience. These are typical sound monitoring headphones which do the job perfectly. As far as pleasure listening goes, these do sound great with certain genre of music such as Progressive Trance, Acid Trance, Prychedelic, Technical Black Metal, Industrial Metal, Mathcore, Progressive Metal and Speed Metal. They also sound great with certain artists in New Age, Fusion and Instrumental. You need high quality music to enjoy these headphones - FLAC or MP3s at 320 Kbps at least.Sound Test:1) "Sonnenuntergang" - SchillerThis is an amazing track by the German duo of Christopher von Deylen and Mirko von Schlieffen (Schiller). This song has lows that you would fail to notice in many headphones including some really good ones out there. The HD380 captures each and every minute detail of every instrument played. The highs and lows are well balanced.2) "Forever In Love" - Kenny GThis song is by far Kenny G's most popular and recognizable instrumental recordings. It sounds amazing on these headphones. Not a single note is missed while listening and you hear sounds that you've never heard before.3) "6:00" - Dream TheaterOutstanding! You would love to hear artists like DT, Rush, U2, Peter Gabriel, Prem Joshua and Bruce Springsteen. They sound so good on this headphone that even the HD800 fails to give these details with some reservations. The Sennheiser HD380 Pro are top class neutral sounding headphones. Having said this, you need to get some HD audio files and choose your music carefully if you plan to use them for personal/relaxation use. They are 60% better than the HD280 Pro and in fact beat almost all the competition in the market with certain music genre that I have mentioned before. Many songs wont sound as sweet as they might sound on the HD439 or the HD598. But then you know that when you buy a Rolls Royce, its not the 320 Kmph speed that you are looking for. I wish the build quality which is good was much, much better. At least the Germans must understand this! People know them for the better quality and if they compromise, they lose their identity and many questions do arise.Score:Sound - 10/10Comfort - 10/10Ambient Noise Cancellation - 9/10Output Sound Leakage / Isolation - 8/10Build Quality 7/10

Excellent Collapsable Headphones and Amazing Bass
Excellent Headphones from Sennheiser. I'm using my LG V20 which has a HIFI QUAD DAC and makes good use of these headphones.Really like the Bass on these. Also the Headphones have great sound isolation and cuts the background noise to a great extent.Portable/Folding Pair of Professional Headphones. Also comes with the Carrying Case.Thank You Amazon and the seller for excellent product and prompt delivery service.

Amazing Closed Back Headphones
I use Presonus Eris E5 monitors for my usual mixing and bought these for school. I am more than impressed by how accurate these sound for the price I'm paying. I got these on a discount for around 7k INR and I think they're worth every penny. The build quality is fantastic, they do not need an amp, the frequency response is amazing and they sound pretty flat. If you're buying them for casual listening, I don't think you should spend all this money for these since they wouldn't give you the bass boosted sound that consumer headphones usually have. These would be a great pair of cans for mixing on the road or as a backup pair in my studio.

My audio collection came to life....
Outstanding product. Very flat frequency response. No coloring of any particular frequencies. If you need bass boost or scooped mids, just use an equalizer, they are very sensitive to equalizers.Warning : 128 kbps doesn't really justify their awesomeness.... I would recommend FLAC or at-least 320kbps mp3'sIf you use really low quality audio (like old desi movies on youtube), they are completely unforgiving. The thing that really amazed me was the sound stage... these headphones sit around your ear; as a result the "speakers" are at a distance from your ears. I guess this is why the stereo imaging is out of this world.Very comfortable bag for portablility... But i don't think these are leaving my desk for a long long time....Cons ... not very portable. I think the cable weighs more than the headphones. But if you are looking at this product, i guess it shouldn;t matter alreadyPreferably use it through a headphone amp - I use Fiio E6 - It significantly improved the audio quality when using mobile phone. Less difference noticed when using pc audio out or sound cardGot this on amazon for 8.4k .... Very good price

Mind blowing
I'm not an audiophile, and thus am giving a typical listener's viewpoint. The noise isolation it gives is mind-blowing.Sound clarity is top notch, bass is accurate and clear and do not overshadow mids or lows.Heavy clamping force may feel uncomfortable, but is fine once you are used to it. Ear pad material is good that it doesn't give any discomfort even with the clamping force. No issues of heating or sweating when used for long time. The pads are large enough not to touch your ear.Foldable pads, and the carry case makes it a good choice for people on the go.Couldn't find any cons, all audiophile forums rate it as a value for money model.

pretty good: from a casual listener
using for 3 months now. this is my first headphone over Rs. 1500. So I don't have any experience to give any expert opinion.I use it for casual music listening only: all genres; from a Win 7 laptop, a chromebook, a Nexus 6; no dac/amp.Sound has gotten better over time. Vocals and instruments are clear, bass is punchy.overall I'm pretty satisfied.

crystal clear natural
best clear natural audio at budget price.should be a little more durable and sturdy. but mine is still in 1 piece and take great care of it.coiled cable is i dont like. it is heavy and if u stretch it then connectors will loosen with time.only thing i disliked is u cant adjust volume. so for game consoles cant use it. for pc, u have to change volume pc controls

Best for both Professionals and Audiophiles
Amazing headphones for people who desire live, natural and uncoloured music.Bought it during Diwali offers.Non-professionals need a high end phone like S5, S6, G3, G4, I5 or I6 with HiFi chips. Else you need a DAC-AMP.Bass heads stay away or use equaliser to get results.

First-class headphone for my application
Some tips based on earlier feedback:- IMO this is an excellent pair of closed-back headphones, i.e. where you do not want to disturb others in the vicinity- Outstanding sound reproduction given a good source and driver- Very good passive sound isolation, good for an noisy office environment- Exceptional low bass response (do a search for online tone generator and try it - 28Hz was there)- The relatively heavy coiled lead may be cheaply and easily replaced with one of these: 1M Metre 2.5mm to 3.5mm Jack Audio AUX MP3 Cable Lead - you may need to use a craft scalpel or knife to trim the 2.5mm end to ease its access into the headphone slot.- If you find the pressure on the ears too much, store the headphones mounted on a simple stack of 5 or more paperback books: then they are always comfortable when put on; add more books to taste- An initial burn-in period of 48 hours or so is a good idea, easily done via the repeat option on your CD player or your favourite radio stationThe downsides are relatively minor:- Most computer audio chains of MP3/Flash software and hardware are rubbish really, compared to a proper hi-fi chain, and these headphones won't conceal that, quite the opposite- You may find your ears get warm, but that's a trade-off as part of this particular over-ear configuration, there are many other optionsSummary:- Just what I needed in busy office, shame the PC audio is so poor 1M Metre 2.5mm to 3.5mm Jack Audio AUX MP3 Cable Lead

5 and a half years later....
Ok, after owning these headphones and using them on an everyday basis for 5 and a half years I think I am qualified to review these.Sound quality: Excellent value for money, provided you have a good soundcard.Build quality: the coating on the pads peels off after about a year. The layer of fabric underneath is actually glued together, not stitched, so eventually they come apart and the foam becomes exposed. The foam will also compress over time. The cable that attaches to the headphones: the insulation separated from the wires leaving the coloured wires exposed. I believe this problem is exacerbated by the coiled cable and the extra weight and strain it puts on the stress point where the cable meets the headphones.Repair: You can send them in to Seinheiser for repair and they will come back looking brand new, if in my case your 1 year warranty is out of date, then it will cost something like £50.So I got them repaired, and now, probably 2 years later, the pad coating is starting to go again. I don't think I will bother having them repaired again, I will probably just upgrade for hopefully a better build quality.Overall, very impressed with the sound quality when I bought them, they eliminated my need for speakers for many years, which helped with space and avoiding causing noise disturbances. I paid £90 for them in 2011. The current price as of writing this review is £83. The RRP is artificially inflated to £150.I'm not currently looking to buy new headphones but I would not consider these headphones at the current price as they are so old I would expect technological advances in this industry to have brought the price down more than £7 in 5 years.

I couldn't decide!!
So, initially, I couldn't decide between the Beyer Dynamic 990's 770's or these Sennheiser HD 380 Pro's ..... so I tried all three. I really wanted the Beyer's to be better because I prefer the styling and velour ear pads.... but in the end after exhaustive testing i couldn't get the Beyers to sound nearly as good as these Sennheisers. It's all very subjective of course - we each need to try our own choices and select the ones we like. For me the 380's just gave the 'deepest' bass... i.e. i felt it as well as heard it, the mids were balanced and I could hear every sound perfectly.... importantly, none of the mids or highs were 'harsh' which I found the Beyers to be. Anyway.... i'm happy.

Excellent headphones @ a bargain price.
I got mine in Dec.2010 (!) via Amazon and was very surprised when I realised that these cans are still on the market for a bargain price of £93!!Anyway, I just did a replacement pads Sennheiser Genuine Replacement Ear Pads Cushions For Pc350 Pxc350 Pxe350 Hd380 Hd380-Pro Hme95 Hmec250 Headphones Fit Also Pxc450 on it as the original ones got worn-out. What to say, price-wise these are probably the best value for money out there on the market. Very "neutral", typical Sennheiser product with a wide frequency spectrum and quite comfortable to wear unless your head has to go sideways through the door. The only downside worth of note is the bass line - if you are looking for a strong bass than go with something else since these headphones definitely won't make you happy. Good but not great!
Great sound and great noise insulation from outside sources, BUT.....Well the 'but' is that the cable (coiled like an old fashioned telephone one) is heavy and noisy. Noisy? I hear you ask?? Well it just keeps rubbing against your shoulder, your collar, your neck, whatever gets in the way, and the noise from the rubbing transmits into the headphone part itself. So, your listening experience is compromised, unless of course you sit like a a statue, which none of us do. So I had to buy a replacement cable (an uncoiled one) which set me back another £23 - I do NOT expect to have to fork out another £23 for a £90 pair of 'phones just to make them bearable! Even then, it isn't perfect. So, not the best buy I have made. Had 4 different Sennheiser models over last 40 years, this is not my favourite!
