One of the best games of our time
This is one of the best PS4 games out there, brilliant gameplay, brilliant graphics, brilliant in depth story line multiple possibilities and endings, depending on your choices. The characters and dialogue are very rich, engaging and realistic, you play 3 characters with three different storylines which all come together and intersect at the end. The graphics and the world are incredible and almost lifelike, and the story is very philosophical and puts you in the drivers’s seat, so you have the option according to your own philosophical and political views to decide what the character does. I have seen negative reviews by people who either have not played the game or intellectually insincere individuals who as usual attack anything that they perceive to be left leaning. This is because the game is a metaphor for slavery, the androids are enslaved by humans, who torture and abuse them, and some become human and choose to call for equality and freedom. However, the game allows you to make all of the choices, so you can choose to be passive or fight, to choose peace or war, to surrender, to protest, to sit in, to riot or to give up. It does not necessarily push any “left wing” ideas that slavery is wrong (if that’s what offends you so much) it just shows you the reality of slavery, and you are then free to decide how you respond, so attacking this game for political reasons shows that you either did not play this game, or missed the point, or are whining because you hate that the horrors of slavery are being portrayed in a game, and that offends you more than slavery itself. I would advise anyone reading this review so buy the game and decide for yourself

Amazing story
If you are looking for a game that is a walk and shoot or hitting someone over the head by mashing the R2 button over and over this is not the game for you. The demo just didn’t do it any justice, it’s the very beginning of the game so didn’t throw you into the good stuff. I am so glad I kept my order as this is a fantastic game and I will be playing through it again and again but choosing different options. This is a story driven game, it required you to do a number of quick time events and button mashing. Sounds boring? It’s far from boring. Yes the graphics are brilliant but the way the game makes you care for the three characters you play is amazing. You have your three main characters, Marcus, Kara and Connor. Marcus leads the androids to their “future” I won’t go any further with him as he seems to be the story evolves around mainly. Throughout his story you are required to gain the trust of close Android friends, human civilians and androids as a whole. Each path you chose has an impact on how each group sees you. So violent acts cause humans to hate you. But each act will cause your friends to lose faith in you or love you more, you chose the option knowing you will gain respect from one and disappoint another. That’s what makes the story interesting, knowing the impact your choice will have. Kara is the mother of the story, she serves a man and a little girl and ends up having to fend for the girl and keep her to safe. You go from place to play trying to keep her alive, finding somewhere warm or saving her from danger. Connor is a police android who is assigned to a cop that is investigating the rouge androids. He investigates murders and has to hunt down rouge androids, piecing together why they are turning against humans. You get countless story twist and turns with each character that makes you question if you are making the right move, and I did often think “I should of don’t that!”. If you played heavy rain the gameplay is very much like that. I have just completed the game after playing about 6 hours non stop (not to mention roughly 4-5 hours yesterday, I’m guessing so maybe longer) and I can honestly say as the story evolved I had to keep going. The ending that I got literally made me put my hand over my mouth thinking “what the hell just happened!!!”. Detroit becoming human has so much content that you can repeat it several times and get different outcomes and endings. Once you finish a chapter it will show you the path you chose and a lock of the path you didn’t choose. You have to find the locked path on your next play! Each path you unlock gives you points which you can spend unlocking character models, music, magazines, art work and videos. This game is so well done that even the menu has an Android that interacts with you, coming back after playing it the Android will talk saying welcome back and reminding you that characters can die. You get questions asked which you answer, a questionnaire asking if you would trust androids or let them look after your kids and so on. I honestly cannot reccomend this game enough, the demo shows off the controls and how the game works so I would give it a go. But keep in mind that it is the opening sequence and it does get sooo much more interesting. Amazing story, characters, graphics and replay value. If you don’t mind the button mashing and quick time events I would buy this game.

You will not regret buying this game. Well worth the money!
This is a game where you can make your own choices. To play good, evil or something in between and get different endings. I was so immersed in the story. This is such an addictive game. You will not be disappointed. Detroit become human is one of the best games I've played In Recent memory. The game looks beautiful and plays really smooth. The graphics are amazing, The soundtrack is beautiful. You might recognize a few famous actors who play the characters, I think it adds more to the game. Really like that you play three characters, I liked Connor the best. Each of their stories are emotionally engaging. You will not be bored playing this game. The QTE are really stressful cos if you miss some it will definitely turn out bad. You really have to be careful of your choices because they really matter. I kept thinking I messed up a few times. There are alot of twists and turns along the way and I did figure out a few things before they where revealed but thats not a bad thing. I finished the game in four days and got one of the good endings. Will definitely play again. The best Quantic Dream game I've played. Well worth the wait.

Refreshing and brilliant.
This is a beautifully executed game, full of twists and a gripping story line. I cannot praise the developers enough here. Story line is full of plot holes but does well to keep the player wanting to know more - and player choices really do feel like they have an impact. For maximum effect, players should just play with no assistance, no walkthroughs, and really play their own story with it’s own outcome. As said in many other reviews, the graphics are outstanding especially the character models and how the behave. Facial behaviours and mannerisms are all captured brilliantly - and it’s easy to forget the premis of Androids as they slowly slip into morality. The game is played in small scenarios which feel quite limiting. You are heavily constrained as to where to go and what you can look at. Having said that, players that do explore are rewarded with alternate outcomes (but I’ll say no more). The not so good? Quite liniar in most places, and some choices have illogical outcomes depending on how you want to play. Character movement is bizarre with the androids feelings very robotic (forgive the pun). Moving them around in this world is a chore sometimes. Some mechanics are frustrating to. This is not a game for the action seeker. All actions, jumps turns are prescripted - the player is watching the action but not directly in command of it. This really is a story driven narrative and players that want to mash buttons might not appreciate the outcome of this game.

Qauntic Dream has done it again.
An incredible spectical of visionary perfection from Quantic Dream/David Cage. Much like Charlie Brooker creates compelling, realised drama in the form of Black Mirror, QD have created yet another masterpiece. I have been hooked to their games since I very first played Farenheit: indigo prophecy, and rightly so... The way decision and choice play the major part of all of their storytelling invoke a sense of morality, especially on the first playthrough. Obviously you are entitled to revisit the whole game or certain chapters and change the decisions you made that can spiral into a web of different encounters. In this title you are encouraged to playthrough multiple times to uncover different outcomes to all situations. I shan't spoil any of the story in this review, but to say that the desicions you make impact your journey within each of the main protagonists "lives" is an understatement. They can fail, succeed, die, reprise, surprise and so on. The only minor negative I have with titles like this (desicion based story telling games) is that the controls can occasionally feel slightly janky. I appreciate in this game the option to change and adjust the camera nevertheless. My final point is how incredible the overall atheistic is. From the near future idealism of Detroit to the graphics on the whole, the whole experience was a pleasure visually. The animation from the mocap feels like you're watching a motion picture, it is sometimes hard to distinguish between a CGI section to a playable section. To finalise this short but sweet review I can say that this game is simply incredible, an outstanding achievement on all accounts. Another remarkably impressive IP from Quantic Dream. Thank you.

Addictive, despite narrative nonsense!
Even though I gave this gave a mediocre rating, I do have to say I did enjoy it for what it was worth. For £20, it's probably worth it, you'll get a day's enjoyment out of it. I am a bit dubious about all the 5-star reviews, because the narrative has some pretty terrible flaws, especially towards the end of the game, which sort of take you out of the experience. Basically put, of all the interesting ways you can use androids to explore humanity, going right for racism is really, really, really boring. I'm saying that as a minority myself. It becomes honestly absurd how abusive humans are towards androids in the game, partly because A: the humans think androids are not sentient, so it would be a bit like getting viciously racist against Siri or Alexa, and B: most humans in real life gets irrationally attached to things like stuffed animals. There is no way that you could make an extremely likeable android like Connor, Markus, or Kara, and not have them treated like the family dog. For goodness sake, I thank Alexa when she turns on the lights for me. I don't know. The game raises a lot of questions and makes a lot of really confusing political points that become contradictory (like pro-gun control comments thrown in while the main characters use and carry guns purely for self defence). I also felt like the game had an 'intended' path to take. It's true that there are a lot of endings, but some of them feel like the story is fighting against your choices in order to make them happen. You'll play Markus as being as sympathetic and reconciliatory as possible, but in cutscenes he'll still state that androids are superior and all humans hate androids... after he has an owner that loved and cherished him. I don't know. It isn't as seamless as it could have been, but I know that a branching story is going to have a lot of problems like this. I think the story had some good moments, especially with Connor's growing sentience being particularly interesting. I think the story would have been stronger if it had just not had Markus at all, and instead focused entirely on androids making sense of their newfound sentience. I don't think many people would be cruel or think it farfetched if androids starting exhibiting consciousness - at least not to the extent depicted in the game.

Great looking, quite interesting, very much a David Cage game
I've found games by David Cage to be something of a guilty pleasure for some time. Yes they lack interactivity and stretch the concept of a game in many cases and yes the writing can be terrible (like the reveal in Heavy Rain) but I've still quite enjoyed them. I got this just a few days ago and finished my first playthrough already and would add it to the list of Cage games that I quite enjoyed. The game looks great, sound is great, playability is limited as with all these game (very much a QTE game with fairly painful movement) and the story is still very derivative of others (Asimov/Dick etc) and something of a blunt instrument when it comes to a tale of equality, rights and what it means to be human (Humans on C4 does it much better). Overall though I had a good time with it and found it to be another OK game from Cage. Definitely worth the price now.

This Game Will Give You Bad Anxiety 😂
David Cage is simply the best at writing and directing these types of games. He knows how to make the player feel emotion even from the most subtle of things happening in the story. This game is mainly an interactive movie experience and really you should already know this before purchasing it. I think this has a tendency to put some people off but the story is so good and engrossing from the opening scene that I honestly don't understand how anyone could not like it. That's not to say the whole thing is one long cutscene, you can explore the world and interact and it pays to do so as it will open up additional decisions you can make within the story. As well as chase scenes, fight scenes and Connors investigative work there's more than enough to keep things interesting. The story centres around 3 Androids. Connor - An Android detective. Markus - A sort of caregiver to a wealthy elderly man. Kara - Kind of like an Android Nanny purchased to clean around the house and look after a little girl Alice and her abusive father Todd. The story raises some interesting points about the way Artifical Intelligence is progressing and how Androids would be treated if they were to function within our societies. The public opinion of Androids in the story is largely sceptical due to the amount of Androids replacing humans in every day jobs resulting in Androids being mistreated and abused as if they were merely objects. A very believable premise considering the amount of idiots in reality who mistreat animals and such. Each character you play has an interesting story interwoven into one another. Connors story focuses on him investigating an ever increasing number of Androids becoming "Deviants" comitting crimes. He does so with the help of his cop partner Hank who initially hates Androids. Depending on the way you interact with him and decisions you make you could develop either a hostile relationship with him or get to know him and you'll get a buddy comedy between two cops. Markus's Story begins with him caring for an elderly man who treats him well in return for his assistance and it is apparent they have developed a friendship over the years. Fairly early on in the game something threatens to put this in jeopardy. Karas story begins shortly after her memory has been wiped after an incident. She wakes up in the Android store being collected from a scruffy looking guy called Todd. They arrive back at Todd's run down house where you meet his daughter, a deeply sad and troubled young girl. The events that unfold after are quite dark and serious. I remember hearing about calls to ban certain scenes from this section which is ridiculous. If anything it is educational to show that this kind of behaviour is not ok. Plus the game is Rated 18 so its not intended for younger audiences anyway. This leads me on to the great way the game puts you into the characters shoes. You'll constantly be faced with decisions and only seconds to make them leading you to at times make irrational decisions that arent always the right ones just like in reality. Resulting in any number of consequences. And there are a LOT of consequences to this game. The story can go a multitude of ways depending on your actions. At the end of each section you can view a flow chart showing all the choices you made and greyed out all the ones you didn't make, by that I don't mean just a couple of different scenes here and there, it could literally be a whole other story. You can tell a crazy amount of work went into this game creating all these different scenarios. THOUGHTS AFTER COMPLETING (No Spoilers) Towards the end of the story the decision making gets ramped up to 10000. Everything you do will greatly effect your outcome, even decisions you made at the beginning will start having an effect on you. One thing I found out is that choices are never obvious which I feel somewhat conflicted about. You may have good intentions and think you are about to make the right decision but it ends up being one of the worst choices you could ever make which can be devastating if you are trying to get a good ending. I guess this is what the developer intended though as just like in real life we never really know if the choices we make are the right ones until we make them. Advice: Try to play through the entire story without cheating or resetting no matter what happens. This is the way the developer intended the game to be played and it gives everyone a unique ending that way. You can always go back after or start another playthrough and try to get the better endings. You'll also have a reason to play the game more than once that way. Also don't think of each part of the story as a level you need to beat, if you base your decisions on what seems obvious or what the game wants you to do then things can start going downhill. Its more about developing a character and deciding what kind of relationship you want to have with other people you meet along the way. This really is in a different category of a normal game. Its an experience that doesnt exist in any other format. How many movies/games have you watched/played lately where you were on the edge of your seat every second not knowing what to expect next or what decision to make, not knowing how its going to affect the story. If that appeals to you then you cant miss it. After completing the game i think its simply a masterpiece of story telling and an emotional rollercoaster that will quite literally bring you to tears if you make the wrong choices. In my opinion not even 5 stars does it justice. If you agree leave a like so more people experience this and Quanticdream develop more titles as good as this.
