along with (edited) transcripts of the great Parkinson interviews with Ali
I was hoping there would be some incisive analysis of Ali, but after 40 years, Parkinson really didn't have much to add to the conversation--certainly not much that was original. This read to me as largely a roundup of research from other sources, along with (edited) transcripts of the great Parkinson interviews with Ali. You're better off looking for the videos of the interviews on YouTube and Vimeo (especially from 1971) and enjoying their banter there.

Wonderful read!
Wonderful read! Parky completes the circle in writing about the incomparable human being who was Muhammad Ali

Good read
An easy read, intriguing story of a complex character. While not comprehensive because of the gap between interviews never theless provided some great insights

Wow! What a wonderful read.
Like most of us, I never met 'the greatest', but I lived in a time when he was not just a boxer but a global, sporting superstar. We were in awe of him. The fights, the interviews, the headlines! I don't know whether Parky (the best interviewer of his time) has come close to capturing the essence of the man, but he has given us a fascinating view behind the scenes of the life we observed from afar. MP got a bit closer than we did, so his insights are really interesting, delivered by a true journalist who, like us, admired and even loved the man and the superstar. The detached views of his links with Islam may well be relevant to our understanding of some of the views of young Muslims today. A brilliant book that I couldn't leave alone.

A good book on GOAT
I have read Remnick's book and others, I have read numerous articles on the Greatest. This book is probably one of the most lucid and free flowing of them all. It is a quick read, took me a few hours to finish, and tells you a lot about the Legend. Recommended.

... too reliant on other books for background (especially the excellent "King of the World")
Initially a little too reliant on other books for background (especially the excellent "King of the World"), but the insight into how the interviews were set-up and the transcripts of the interviews themselves are fascinating and a reminder of the flawed, fascinating and larger than life one-off that was Muhammad Ali.

Rather disappointed as there was not enough insight from Mr Parkinson ...
Rather disappointed as there was not enough insight from Mr Parkinson himself. Basically the interviews are transcribed here repeating what we have already seen. There are also too may references from both Thomas Hauser's and David Remnick's excellent biographies of Ali which I have already read. My advice would be to seek out the interviews on YouTube and watch them,
