A “must have” book for any young adult!
This is the book I wished I had growing up! The author addresses many important life skills parents and adults may take for granted are being taught in a school setting. Many life skills are not. We think our kids have learned how to properly problem solve, or knows how to manage money, or that they have emotional intelligence and self control, or that they know how to properly communicate with other adults or professionals. I found this book to be helpful for myself by ways of explaining a specific topic, or just to remind me of what may be a topic to discuss with my child. The author has included many relevant topics and explains each and everyone in a thorough manner with humour and relevant examples. It is easy to grasp the concept that is being discussed in the book. Reality is that many graduates highschool without many of these important life skills, or at least may be lacking some. This book is an excellent source in bridging the gap between parents and kids, or school and kids. I truly enjoyed reading this book and can strongly recommend it to any young adult, as young as early teens. I believe it can help build confidence and knowledge that can lead to success when it’s time to start looking at colleges or searching for a job. A well written, smart, intelligent, funny and informative book! Linda and Peter Greibesland

A great getting started guide for young adults or soon to be adults.
Having worked with college and high school students for thirty years, I have been amazed time and time again by the basic things that they never learned growing up. What most adults think of as pretty basic skills, a lot of teens have no clue about. Ben has put together an easy to read, quick and fun guide to help young people get started on their journey into adulthood. The book does go into a number of things that are much deeper than basic skills as well. I was particularly impressed by his chapters on communications and personal skills. My employer has had numerous trainings over the years on active listening and navigating difficult conversations. Ben does an amazing job of sharing how to get started in both. I wish that someone had passed me a copy of something like this as I was getting ready to head off to college.

Great guide for teens
This is the book I wish I had in my hands a few years back when a middle school scheduling problem left me (a science teacher) teaching a weekly class called “Advisory” to a group of 8th graders. There was no curriculum for the class. The principal just said to teach organization, study, and life skills. Had Ben Clardy’s book been available then, I would have been all set. Each chapter focuses on a topic relevant to teen life written in plain, engaging, and friendly language. I suspect that few teens will just pick this on their own. I highly recommend that parents, counselors, teachers, mentors, youth group leaders and others with relationships with teens get ahold of this book to share and discuss with their teenage charges.

A practical starter for life geared towards teens and pre-teens
Well written engaging and easy to read. Your teen or pre-teen will need to be interested in self improvement and self exploration. If they are, they'll enjoy this read and get some practical advice as they mature.

Filled with great tips for a healthy and productive life.
This book is filled with great, common sense tips and ideas that help teens transition to a healthy and productive adult life. There are so many I doubt most teens will make use of all of them, but even just following a small percentage of them will make a big difference for the better. After reading the book I'd suggest trying a few that appeal to you, seeing the difference they can make, then going back and trying a few more. Over time, they will lead to a happier, healthier, and more productive adult life.Without getting too deep into why these tips, skills, and habits aren't taught in schools, Ben has filled that void. His writing style, sometimes quirky sense of humor, and good old common sense make this an easy read, with plenty of valuable information along the way.

A balanced walk through
This is a great book for a parent or mentor of a teen to read with a teen. Something they can think through on what it means and how the different skills apply. The author is correct. These things simply aren’t taught in school and are often not well understood by some adults. This is a great book and easy/accessible read. I read it for possible inclusion in what I am gifting to nieces/nephews/grandkids as they hit their teen years. I think it will be a great addition/gift/

PRACTICAL
This isn't a book for self help like finding yourself. This is a PRACTICAL how to book. It's home economics and everyday life skills. From how to save and invest money (Chapter 3) to cooking a meal (Chapter 5) and changing a flat tire and first aide (Chapter 11). Clardy hasn't missed a beat. This is a handbook for any young adult. My son will have a physical copy, so he can reference specific questions as they arise. Well done, Ben.

Enlightening and easy to read
This is a fun book to read. Flowing, entertaining, funny at times, and never too heavy. It won't instantly make you into a better person - no book can. But it will provide you with enough points of reference (so to say) to stop yourself in the doing (or thinking) and recognise that you are in a decision junction, or a better choice can be made. Do this often enough, as the book suggests, and you might just turn yourself into a better person - over time.Indubitably worthy a read.

This book should be in every school
Wow, that was quite an interesting read. First of all, it is complete, well-written, and, I guess, with the right tone of voice. For me it's a couple of decades too late, so not sure about that one. I can imagine, though, that this book will not reach a lot of youngsters simply because they don't want to read about how to live life properly, have measuring cups in the kitchen, and wash their cars regularly. But then again, if the book is available, maybe in schools, at home bought by parents, maybe with some sort of lead magnet... who knows? It would be great if a book like this actually reaches the youth who sometimes have no clue at all about how things work in the real world. I certainly like the effort that went into this book.

Great! Even if you’re not a kid.
The book is so well written and easy to read. Listening to the writers voice and the humour behind it was very entertaining but it is equally full of hints and tips that even some adults could do with being reminded about.Very enjoyable read

Essential reading for teens!
On his first outing Ben has hit it out of the park. This book is full of information I wish someone had told me as a young man entering the world of adulthood. The first chapter about mindset and values is absolutely essential reading. Everything flows from there. Very informative and extremely practical I highly recommend reading this book.
