My friend had a computerized chess board years ago and it pales in comparison to this one. This has many great features that I am still getting aquanted with. Unlike the one we had years ago, this one has strong magnetic pieces. It is a little smaller than I would like but it is a perfect size to take on a car ride. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to challenge themselves to progress in their chess playing skill.

I bought this chess board for my girlfriend, as she never knew how to play chess, and I decided to teach her. The board is simply fantastic! The hint cards are very convenient and helpful in the beginning stages. The hints on the board itself also work perfectly. She’s really happy with it, and we’re making good progress. We often just use it as a regular chess board and play against each other. The battery lasts a long time, and the board itself is compact and easy to store and carry.

I love playing chess. I got this to put in my office, I played all the time. It does have a good teaching method. It was very easy to set up and easy to use. It also looks really sharp on my desk. Very happy with this purchase at this price point.

Items is very nice, but it's very small, chess board is very small, pieces are also very small.

This is a good chess game. Even at the easiest settings the computer will take advantage of your mistakes. The hints, and tutoring can be helpful, but the explanation of mistakes leaves a bit to be desired. I think that this is a good set for a novice or two novices to play with an overseer (verifying that moves are legal, etc.). The tutoring does not really help with developing strategy. For that you will still need to do some reading. The play isn't bad for an intermediate player, though I found online games to be a bit better suited for my development. It doesn't feel like playing with a person. People tend to play at a consistent level of anticipation. This game is more like a pretty good player with some random moves thrown in. In the lowest levels the first several moves are very random, but the middle game seems better, or at least less prone to mistakes. One of the disadvantages of online play is that some of us like to see the pieces and keep a board set up along with the online game. This set gives you the pieces on a board, but both are quite small. I almost wanted to have a larger board set up next to this one. It only took me a little while to figure out all of the settings and get used to playing. I haven't tried the style of play settings yet. I think that this set is best for someone who needs an opponent, but does not want to play online. and perhaps for someone who is trying to teach themselves how to play. The game is rated for 6 and up, but I think that it would be pretty frustrating for a 6 yo. To me, 8 is more of a minimum age, and 9 or 10 is more likely.

I did a fair amount of research before buying this for our 14 year old. It's absolutely perfect - GREAT value for money, easy to set up and we are absolutely thrilled with it! Great gift and investment for the whole family!
