So, I just upgraded my home to 5.4 gigs upload and download and my house is hard wired for 10+ gigs so I wanted to update my 1 gig room routers to 2.5 and 10g. So, my ISP Router has 10g ports and 2 2.5g ports. 1 10g port goes into the Fiber Modem from my ISP I wanted my office to have a full 10g so I added one of these into that room and plugged the 10port into my wall, which goes directly to a 10g port of my Home Smart Switch (which supports 10g and 2.5 ports). so my office gets a full 10ggs then each device in there is plugged into the 2.5 gig ports and all my machines are newer, support 10gs, but as they are plugged into the 2.5s they all get 2.5 I am truly happy with this. Looks great, works great, price is great there are no negatives I can find right now.

3.5 Stars. Because, everyone loves these cables and status lights on the same side, WHY? Every home setup I've ever done the cables go out the back, and the status lights are in the front. To make matters worse, the power cable plugs into the other side (now the front) so I have to tuck it back under the unit to go out the back, and all the status lights are also in the back with the cables. doopid!! Anyway, the switch performs well, it stays relatively cool although I'd rather have a fan inside for hot days. Perhaps it's just me, but my older 10/100/1000 units are setup correctly with power and cables in the back and status lights in the front. Other than all that, Its a great unit. (In case the reviews for Trendnet switches are shown on more than one model, this review is of the model with 1x10G RJ45 port, 8x2.5G RJ45 ports.) We recently upgraded our home router to include a 10G port and several 2.5G ports, the switch we had was an 8x1G port model from another company. I'm happy to report that the installation for this switch was just unplugging and replugging the cables & power adapter, as you'd expect, and that it just works. I've done a few tests both with downloads from the internet, and between our home server plugged into the router, and our desktops in the office connected to this switch, it definitely operates well over the maximum speed of our old 1GB switch (as you'd expect). I haven't pushed it to capacity, but I can say it was just the upgrade our network needed at this time. As a black box with blinkenlights, it isn't winning any awards for aesthetics, but the old switch lived under a desk on top of a UPS, this was a non-factor for our purchase.

This switch works great and I actually have a few of them. Using the 2.5Gig to connect to different devices and then using the 10G interface as an uplink connection to my satellite routers 10G interface, and then forwards the data to main router at 10G. 508MB pings tests over a few days showed no drops and did similar test with TrendNet 5 port 10G switch same results. Speed test reached approximately 2.5Gps with no issues. Great purchase for a great price and it does not get too warm. Using Cat6 for 2.5G ports and Cat6a for 10G port. An American Company!
