Very nice
Very nice knife. Marlinspike is bigger than I thought and works great. Knife is sturdy and solid. Very pleased

Quality built product.
I ordered this, because my German Grandfather had one. He was in the German Navy BEFORE World War II. I remember seeing him use it in daily projects. I don't know what happened to it, but I wanted one. This knife is quality made, and is capable of being used just like my Grandfather used his.

A quality knife for the money.
The same item is being sold in Varusteleka for 19.99 Euro. I paid $18.04 at Amazon. Yes, it says, "TSR Rostfrei" on the blade, and there is no marking indicating it is from China. But the box it came in says it is made in China. The original German Navy issue comes with a small horn at the base of the spike, so you can remove the Heineken bottle cap with it. You get free shipping from Amazon= a good deal. Everything about this knife screams, "heavy-duty!" The sheep's foot blade (3 1/4 in.) is thick, hollow ground evenly, and folds centered. The blade is drilled true, so that, when the blade pivots around the pin, there is no wiggle, deployed or stowed. It cuts paper cleanly. The steel is probably 440A, but no complaints. The construction is solid. Both the blade and the spike lock up tightly, and do not move at all. The plastic handle is smooth, and well formed. The unlock lever for the spike is solid steel, not stamped sheet metal. It coveres over the blade, when stowed. The brass pins are well-rounded and tight. The spike itself is thick and well polished. Since it is riding on a brass pin, I would not recommend putting too much bend into the spike sideways. The bail is of a heavy-guage wire. The only detraction for this Marlin Spike knife is that the blade has a thin gap at the pivot between itself and one brass lining on one side, and one scale on the other side also has a thin gap in the same manner; but they do not interfere with operation. One star is taken off for the above mentioned flaws.

Exactly What I Hoped For the Money
My knife arrived exactly as I had hoped. Solid resin scales, brass rivets, sturdy construction. I work on boats all day and just wanted a good rigging knife that will serve me well and that I also won't mind if it goes to the bilge. Blade is heavy construction, ~3/16" at the spine though it is tapered it's whole width. I'm sure it could take light batoning but no folder should regularly see batoning. The spike is fabulous, very minor pitting showing signs of the casting/forging before it was polished though nothing is deep enough or large enough to affect the lifespan or utility of the tool. The spike is easily opened and closed one handed. The shape and point of the spike are really excellent, this will put more than a few of my other spikes into full retirement. The locking mechanism really holds the spike well with no play and will clearly take a lot of abuse. In my usage I will definitely be using the spike more than the blade and this knife is designed for that. The blade does not lock and I am skeptical of how well it will keep an edge compared to Victorinox, Mora, Opinel (other comparably priced blades with a reputation for good steel at the price) but it is built well and I will not hesitate to cut a line or slice an apple with it. The lock lever which covers the blade tip is a nice feature that sets my mind at ease, though it does mean that the blade takes both two hands to open and two hands to close. Please don't confuse that this is a bad blade though, it is perfectly adequate for everything I will encounter and will be a fine companion. I expect this knife will last me the rest of my career and if it doesn't I will be getting another just like it - sorry Myerchin.

It's a good knife
I think the blade should be a sheep foot design, so if you dropped it while at sea, the blade would not penatrate into your shoe, hence, your foot.

Great knife for paracord projects...and general pocket knife use.
The quality of this knife is very impressive for the price. Out of the box, it's sharp enough to cut paracord cleanly. And I like the way the marlin spike is tapered over the entire length, rather than just the first inch like so many other marlin spikes. I would recommend it to a friend.

Nice knockoff well priced
It's nice, but I'm sure it is a knockoff and I doubt it is really from Deutschland.

IT does feel like a good quality knife for the price
The only reason I gave the knife 4 stars instead of 5 is because the plastic handles came a bit damaged but that it's not a big issue for to the point where I want to replace the knife. The steel used in this particular knife seems to be very old steel that was somewhat grinded than polished because I can see some parts on the steel that have been eaten by time, I know this because I work on a steel shop. But the quality of the knife itself seems to be very good it came sharp out of the box and the locking mechanisms are pretty good, specially on the spike you can hear a click similar to the Swiss army knifes but the lock mechanism on the blade is not as secure but as long as your putting pressure against the lock mechanism you shouldn't have any accidents with the blade. Since I just got the knife I don't know how long it will last or how long it will take before the knife starts to rust, if it rusts at all.... It does say (Rostfrei) on the blade Wich it translates to (Rust free) I hope it stays true to that "quote" but I will update my review if a quality problem happens to it.

Y aunque no he tenido tiempo de ponerla a prueba parace fuerte. Pero si la necesitas como herramienta que vas a usar, y no solo para decorar la estantería, yo buscaría otras opciones, por unos pocos euros más, una portuguesa Saylor de ICEL, muy similar, es una herramienta de trabajo real, mucho mejor construida.

This product is very well made. I have used for several years now - volunteer emergency service, I climb, sail and work with ropes/chords. This product is a very functional and useful tool, I carry this on a lanyard attached to uniform or belt. I have sharpened the blade, stainless steel works well. The awl is very sturdy and locks in position the whole form is very manageable fits well in my hand and allows for precise action. The awl works well on a large variety of ropes, chords etc. I recently used to untie a stubborn knot on a shoe lace.

du lourd, du costaud ! Belle fabrication !
