DR Strings Zebra - Acoustic-Electric Round Core 11-50

Firstly, these strings are designed for use with an electric-acoustic guitar. That is, an electric guitar with magnetic pickups and a piezo pickup installed. I would not recommend them on any other type of guitar. Secondly, these strings are a compromise that allows for both electric and acoustic sounds but you need to have realistic expectations. The tone and playability is somewhere in between both. On the electric side, they play a little stiffer than pure steel stings. This is due partly to the wound 3rd string. However, I can bend them just fine, but it took a day or so to adjust to them. The wound 3rd really helps on the acoustic side and sounds great on open chords but takes a little of the punch off on the electric side when playing lead and doing 3rd string bends. Finally, they may not sound so great acoustically when played into an electric guitar amp. They will probably sound "thin" or "tinny", particularly if you use the same EQ settings you are using for the electric sounds. If you run direct into a PA or mixing board, it sounds great. You can get a good sound with a guitar amp if you use a preamp pedal or a different channel on you amp with an EQ set to compensate (bring down the treble and up the bass). The acoustic sound I get is killer on my 71 Fender Twin Reverb amp on the normal channel with the bright switch off. I use an A/B pedal to switch between the channels and have one set for electric and the other for acoustic.

I recently purchased a Godin A6 Ultra (fantastic guitar) and have been looking for strings that would work well with both the piezo and the neck humbucker. It originally came with nickel wound 12-53’s but they were a bit stiff and I didn’t like how they reacted with the under-the-bridge piezo. I tried several other string gauges and brands and it never seemed quite right. I tried these DR Zebra’s and the acoustic sound through the piezo just came alive with a much more acoustic guitar sound. At the same time, the humbucker tone did not suffer since there is enough nickel to deliver a good signal. I find that if I turn the humbucker bass down and treble up and add a little of that with the acoustic signal it sounds sweet! I would recommend these strings for anyone with an acoustic-electric guitar who wants to focus primarily on the acoustic signal.

I use these on my Crafter SA-TMVS, and the acoustic sound is much more realistic, compared to the stock electric strings. But they also feel more like acoustic strings, and that can make it more difficult to bend notes on those electric guitar solos. Just something to consider before making the switch.

I have a Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster which has an undersaddle Fishman pickup driving an onboard Aura system for acoustic sounds and also a twisted Tele neck pickup for electric sounds. Out of the box this guitar came with Fender NPS (Nickel plated steel) strings and they sounded so bad acoustically and through the Aura that I actually requested a return authorization for the guitar! After reading up on hybrid string choices however I decided to give GHS White Bronze and DR Zebras a try. The GHS went on first and while they were much improved over the Fender NPS, I decided to try the DR strings also. Now we're talking. A very acoustic sound both unplugged and through the Aura pickup. Close your eyes and you'd never guess this was an electric guitar looking hybrid. Pure sweetness. Through the twisted Tele magnetic pickup they have more than enough nickel to drive this pickup and give me a solid electric sound. Kick in some overdrive and they rock! From now on for any hybrid from this guitar to a Taylor T5, these will be my string of choice!

I've gone through probably every string maker there is, and it seems like not matter what, I always come back to DR. I am not usually interested in gimmicky things, like 1-use tools etc. but these strings are absolutely perfect for what they are designed for. I have a Gretsch 5420t that I could never get to sound the way it did in my head. It was always a little tinny and empty listening acoustic, and muddy and thin when plugged in. I basically stopped playing it when I found these strings and decided to give them a shot. Not only does the color make the guitar look 10x better, the sound is unbelievable. It is now my #1, as I find myself reaching for it almost every time I want to play.

These are really great strings. I use them on a midi guitar and needed magnetic string for my fishman, and these were recommended. They work great.Customer support is terrific as well. My local mail delivery posted delivered them got them to me 2 days later so I requested replacements and recieved them in 2 days no questions asked.That maybe due to Amazon, but either way I'm happy with them either way.

Bought these for my michael kelly hybrid special. Best sounding and feeling strings I've had on it. Picks up the piezo perfect and they sing with the humbuckers! So glad I found these. In wont put anything else on this guitar
