desertcart.com: Games Untold (The Inheritance Games, 5): 9780316573719: Barnes, Jennifer Lynn: Books Review: Another 5 stars for Jennifer - I wonder if Jennifer has ever spent time resting when she released the masterpiece "The games untold" It is such a captivating companion book for fans of series The inheritance games. It encompasses several novellas, each focusing specific characters or moments that add depth to the overall narrative universe. The collection brings a mix of humor, romance, and suspense, offering new perspectives on beloved characters while filling in intriguing gaps from the main series. he novellas shine in exploring lesser-seen aspects of characters. For instance, Five Times Xander Tackled Someone (and One Time He Didn’t) is a hilarious and heartwarming dive into Xander's growth, making him even more endearing. Similarly, Pain at the Right Gun provides a suspenseful backstory for Jameson, answering lingering questions from the series. The Cowboy and the Goth, which delves into Libby and Nash's love story, is a standout for its sweet and genuine depiction of their relationship. Stories like $3CR3T $@NT@, centered around a Hawthorne family secret Santa game, highlight the witty dynamics among the characters, blending humor with heartfelt interactions. The novellas enrich the series' lore, providing readers with a deeper understanding of the Hawthorne legacy and the intricate relationships among the family members Some stories, such as What Happens in the Treehouse and One Hawthorne Night, were less engaging for readers due to their slower pacing or lack of substantial narrative impact. These tales, while enjoyable, might feel underwhelming compared to the others. Games Untold" is a must-read for devoted fans of The Inheritance Games. While not all novellas are equally impactful, the collection offers a mix of humor, mystery, and emotional moments that complement the main series beautifully. It’s perfect for those eager to spend more time in the Hawthorne universe and delve into the intricate lives of its characters. This book is best enjoyed after completing the main series to fully appreciate the nuances and callbacks to previous events. Review: Games Untold - Reader’s Notes: *I read the regular edition & then the Barnes & Noble exclusive edition partial stories (it has 3 more stories than the other edition put in after the acknowledgments that aren’t complete)* *Series or Connected Books?* it is part of a series & should be read after the previous books in the series; I believe it also connects The Inheritance Games series to The Grandest Game series (based off the author’s acknowledgments); this is a collection of shorter stories across, before, & after the events in the previous books -The story called The Same Backward As Forward is also in the book called The Same Backward As Forward, but the separate book includes Toby/Harry’s side of the story too *Point Of View:* -That Night in Prague – Avery -The Same Backward As Forward – Hannah (Avery’s mother) -The Cowboy and the Goth – Libby -Five Times Xander Tackled Someone (& One Time He Didn’t) – Xander & Max -One Hawthorne Night – Grayson -S3cr3t S@nt@ – Avery -What Happens in the Treehouse – Xander -Pain at the Right Gun | That Night in Prague – Jameson Barnes & Noble partial stories: -A Suit-Napping Most Foul – Grayson -The Oral History of Infinity Equals Eight – Max -The Puppy Hawthorne – Tiramisu Panini Hawthorne (the puppy) *Any Cursing Or Possibly Offensive Language?* in the regular edition there are about 39 curse words & 3 pseudo curse words; the Barnes & Noble shorts add only one pseudo curse word *Romance?* Yes! A couple of different already established romances are still in play here. -there is a female/female romantic interest mentioned (side characters) -there are mentions of intense make outs (lips swollen after the fact indicate this as well as roaming hands or straddling on a bed in a few kisses) -there are mentions of characters having slept/laid down together/woken up together (I’m not sure if it was meant in the literal sense or if it meant they had sex) -it is mentioned that a character thinks about joining another in the shower (they don’t do so, but are in the bathroom during & after the other character’s shower) *Things To Know:* –a character is cut with a blade on their torso (like for a bit of torture) -there are mentions of a drug crime family business & the brutal life a character lived when around them (watching their back, a few minor injuries, fear) Review: This was more of a 4.5 star read of me, but I rounded up for sites that only take full star reviews. My rating went down half a star due to the cursing & intense makeouts/questionable romance advancement (the not being sure if they just literally fell asleep together or if they did more – though I’m hoping it was just the literal, I’m thinking it wasn’t). But other than that I had a lot of fun visiting with the Hawthorne’s again! The character of these four brothers, their shenanigans, and the puzzles were all a lot of fun to follow. My favorite story by far I think was S3cr3t S@nt@ with how into the game everyone got as well as the various rules involved! I also really enjoyed the chance to hear something from Libby’s point of view & seeing what had happened between Avery’s mother & the uncle Toby/Harry back when they first met! I’m curious to see what will happen in The Grandest Game & what The Same Backward As Forward is like from Toby/Harry’s point of view! *No summary from me as there are too many stories in this book*

Incredible Stories -- Pages were out of order
First of all, the stars are not an indicator of the writing. I LOVE this series, and this collection of short stories that provides great insight and backstories into all the major characters is absolutely wonderful. The content of the book gets 5 stars, for certain, more if they were available. I gave it three stars because of the production quality. The cover is fine, the pages are pristine, but an entire section of pages is out of order. All the pages are in the book, but pages 377-408 are at the end of the book, after the author bio, and not nestled between page 376 andf 409 the way they should be. At first, I thought it might be a puzzle or something -- you know how these stories are; that's not a completely far-fetched idea -- but a quick search revealed nothing about a puzzle involving relocated pages, so I'm assuming that somehow, someway, this group of pages decided they didn't like where they were and put themselves someplace else. I'm sure there's a logical explanation, but I don't know what it could be, so I'm returning the book. I'd ask to exchange it, but I want to read it now, and I don't want to have to wait and worry that I might get another switched-up book, so I'll just buy it at a bookstore, even though it'll cost more -- at least I'll be able to check the pages before purchasing it.

My 15 year old is obsessed with this whole collection! She wasn't a big reader and really struggled to find books she enjoyed then came across these and hasn't been able to put them down!
