Loved the Amazing Second Book in the Off the Grid Series
I absolutely loved Reckless Whisper by Barbara Freethy, the second book in her Off the Grid series. I really love romantic thrillers and Barbara Freethy truly delivered an incredible story with Reckless Whisper. Each book in the series keeps getting better. I could not out it down. I loved every page. I have read some of Barbara Freethy's other books, both her romances and other romantic thrillers and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I loved the characters and the way she describes the locations in and around Chicago. I enjoyed that the location for Reckless Whisper was different from the location in Perilous Trust. I really enjoyed how the book was told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has shown that she is a master storyteller regardless of the genre. Reckless Whisper is the story of Bree Adams, an FBI agent in the New York Field Office and her former best friend, Nathan Bishop. As a member of the Critical Action Response Detail (CARD) team, Bree is sent to Chicago when it appears that another ten year old girl, Hayley Jansen has been kidnapped by the media dubbed, White Rose Kidnapper. When Bree goes to the home of Grace Roberts to interview her since she was the last person to see Hayley before she was abducted, Nathan Bishop answers the door. Grace Roberts is Nathan's niece. I love the reaction that each one of them had to the other. Aside from the case, Bree has been receiving mysterious phone calls that leads her to examine her own past in Chicago and with Nathan. Bree left Chicago eleven years ago, when she was pregnant put her baby up for adoption after she was born. Bree and Nathan work together to try to bring Hayley home, even though the Chicago FBi office has benched her from the case. While they are searching for Hayley, Bree and Nathan share secrets from their past and begin to explore their feelings for one another. I really enjoy the plot twists and the surprises in Reckless Whisper. One of my favorite parts of the story are the poignant moments that Bree and Nathan share, and the moment between Nathan and his sister, Josie. I love how Hayley was rescued and that good triumphed over evil in the end. I love how the Epilogue, wraps up the ending of the story. Never would I have guessed who was behind the kidnapping and the threats against Bree, that was truly a surprise plot twist. I love how all the lose ends got tied up. It was an incredible story and I loved every page. So looking forward to reading Wyatt Tanner's story in Desperate Play.

Great read
I loved this book but you definitely have some timeline issues. If you reread book one five years had passed between Jaime's death and Alan's death. This book has that all confused. Those kind of things distract from the story for meHowever, I love the series and Freethy as an author. I will continue to read about this team.

Another great read.
Another great read. I really enjoy reading action/romances by Barbara Freethy. She always gives you a well written story, that is properly edited and proofread. Her series are not cookie cutter copies with different characters. They are loaded with unique characters, action, intrigue and romance. No explicit sex scenes or excess foul language. You also get a beginning, a middle and a well thought out ending. I definitely recommend this book to others and am looking forward to the next book in series. I rarely give 5 stars, but I really wasn't able to find any detractors, excellent work. 5 Stars Janice M.

Excellent Pacing, Suspense and Tension
The pacing of this story was excellent. I loved the mystery, the build up of suspense, and the tension/attraction. This was definitely a second chance love story and the characters have a strong, difficult history together. Break your heart difficult. It was so good to see them get a happy ending but it sure took a lot to get there! It was so good.Content: some swearing. Sexual situations, early details that fade to black. Violence, peril.

Best kept secrets
So much more to Bree then I expected from book one or this blurb and I loved it! The surprises and twists kept coming in this story. Great build up and plot to an intriguing kidnapping case that is not what it seemed from step one and a lovely second chance romance.Bree was introduced in book one, but it is not necessary to red that first to appreciate this Tory. I loved how the group still was there for her, the being with Wyatt and the better introduction of another baseball teammate.

Bree and Nathan's Childhood Love Saga... Stix' s Revenge 4.5***** SPOILER ALERT
FBI Agent Bree Larson aka Adams left her old life behind in Chicago, as Nathan got her on the bus to escape Crooked Johnny, and to make a better life for her unborn child and herself. While tracking the White Rose Killer, she is unwittingly dragged back to Chicago to locate another girl, Hayley, but unbeknownst to her it is her adopted daughter. As she is led from clue to staged clue, she realizes that this is personal and not the White Rose Killer. Her reconnection with Nathan stirs up old feelings and he is weary of his heart being trampled upon by Bree, again. Together they rescued Hayley, Bree kills Stix, and Johnny is dead, leaving several unanswered questions like who gave Stix her FBI file information, and why is Wyatt in California.Great plot and character development, with the underlying theme, of revenge is a dish served cold. Loved this series, now onto book one. A MUST-READ!03/25/18.

Enjoyable read
I enjoyed this book. I found it to have a steady pace, had a decent romance and likeable characters. The romance was clean, letting your imagination do the work which is a refreshing change. No swearing (that I can recall anyway) and the crime was not gruesome. I felt it was a decent balance of the genres. Nathan was very sweet, I was definitely rooting for them. I really liked that the author did not create unnecessary drama between the couple causing them to annoy me with the traditional “breakup” at the end before the big cheesy confession of undying love...I say this as a romance reader (I know...doesn’t make sense lol. What can I say? It has to be done right) Anyway, I found it to be an enjoyable read.
