Samurai Strategies: 42 Martial Secrets from Musashi's Book of Five Rings (The Samurai Way of Winning!)

Essential.
A must in your personal library. This book is so much a part of me now-after years of absorbing it. I gave a copy to my son. Inscribed it, but he completely could care less! He never even opened it to read what I wrote to him much less said thanks. He’s 25. Life will teach for me, I guess. But you must read this like a sacred text. Apply it. The highs and lows. Same for the book of five rings.

A Must Read!
This book is definitely a must-read for everyone, martial artist or not. It reads fairly quickly, and is one you'll want to read again. Each of the '42...secrets' are life-lessons. They give you insight into the time when Samurai lived, and explains how the lesson applied then and how it applies now. We all have something to learn from their code of Honor, and this book can help everyone.

True New Translation not a Cookie Cutter Of Master Musashi's Book.
Great Book, Gives a different spin to the classic. Its about time this masterpiece was translated for combat with out the wishy washy stuff. I mean he was a master dueler after all.Explains other tactics, strategies, concepts, left out on other supposedly new translations, especially for martial arts.

Musashi Summarized
This little book is basically a summary of The Book of Five Rings, a book written the the Japanese sword master Musashi in 1645. This is a good, easy to read and easy to understand summary of Musashi's book for those who may have a hard time understanding the teachings from the actual writings of Musashi. The commentaries or summaries are anywhere from one to three pages long, so this is a quick and easy read. Although this is a quick read, it does contain some very useful information for the martial arts, as well as life in general.Samurai Strategies is worth reading. I found it enjoyable and interesting even though I had previously read The Book of Five Rings several times before I actually ran across this book. I do recommend that the reader also read the Book of Five Rings and not just simply be satisfied with this summary of Musashi's writings. 4 Stars...I think that you will enjoy it.Bohdi Sanders, author of Warrior Wisdom: Ageless Wisdom for the Modern Warrior

A very concise breakdown of The Book of Five Rings, while interesting and informative I feel that the author provides very additional commentary beyond comments like "and it's clear to see how this can be applied in sports and business". I would've liked to see more direct references to the book itself and a more critical analysis of the language used, I also do not feel as though the author has a particularly deep or insightful knowledge of zen or martial arts.Regardless, an interesting and entertaining book.
